New droid user looking for knowledge!

i think im just going to restore Sapphire 1.0.0 and start from scratch, the speed and protormance was great! but it had a lot of extra stuff i would never know what to do with, and i didnt want to fenagle with anything, now it may not be doing anything, im trying to restore Sapphire 1.0.0 from BB 0.4 and now its not doing anything but sitting on the moto screen again, im soooo confused with this stuff!! lol

ClockWorkMod 2.5.0.1 should be stable...

I would have to disagree with you on that; it has been pretty unstable for me as well. One time I went to backup my current ROM and left the phone to go do something else, came back and assumed the backup was complete and then tried to install a theme and, of course, boot loop. Reboot into recovery and find, much to my dismay, no current backup!!! So, now I never assume because that saying is very true :P
I guess it's that way for soem, but I've not had any issues for quite some time using this version..... and I regularly flash and backup...

He could always flash SPRecovery... and then just boot into that to do everything.... but then he could just as well do the same exact thing by manually booting into clockworkmod recovery and doing everything thru that menu instead of using the Rom Manager UI...

oh man i think im trouble here... i tried to reboot my phone into recovery mode by holding x and the power button and its not doing anything. FREAK!!!! lol what did i do!? all im doing is the same process as before, just with different roms

Can you boot into recovery?... backup or restore thru there and not thru RomManager until you figure out why it's not working for you.

It's not even booting to the M logo??

i hooked it back up to the computer and its booting now, i dont know what happened... so im going to manually try this... it was just sitting at the m logo everytime i tried to boot into recovery...

You might have corrupted your recovery file.... in which case you just reflash it if you are able to boot up to one of your ROMs...

If unable to boot into recovery nor any ROMs...then you'll need to use RSDLite and flash SPRecovery again.

DANG!!!! i honestly dont know what i did, it wonr boot into recovery. ive tried holding the x and power and i tried throu rom manager... i dont know whats going on...

now this is something ive never had to do, again remember im learning all this today, so how would i do this... it boots up just dine when its completely off and then i hook up the USB cable..

So can you boot into your ROM?

yea its wierd, it wont boot into recovery or anyhting when its not connected to USB, but as soon as i connect it to the USB it comes right on... and boots right up with BB

ok found a solution, i deleted the kernels i put on the phone and loaded the Sapphire 1.0.0 backup i had and it seemd to be working now... im going to see whats up sorry for the long wait, i went to the store... needed some cafiene to calm me down! lol

Do you have a working recovery? Rom Manager is your problem for sure if that is how you got your recovery. you need to flash SPRecovery thru RSD.

Use sbf to flash SPRecovery onto your phone:

You will need to have RSD Lite installed to flash the SPRecovery sbf file for ESE81 (official 2.1 Android for Motorola Droid.)

Download the following file:
  1. Connect your phone to the PC via USB and turn it off then while your phone is booting hold up on the DPAD.
  2. Run RSD Lite 4.6 as Administrator (For all you Vista and 7 folks out there. If you are using XP you may not need to run as Administrator)
  3. If your phone is not displayed in the "model" column you may need to do the following:
    1. Select the "config" option from the upper left corner of the tool
    2. Select DeviceId Options
    3. Select one of the two options available. By default neither are chosen, and my phone shows up fine with neither one selected.
  4. Click the [...] next to the filename box and browse to where you saved the .sbf file you want to use and double click the .sbf file.
  5. Hit start and below it should give you completion progress.
  6. Your phone will reboot and you will be on a stock 2.1 phone with SPRecovery installed.

You now have the replacement boot-recovery app SPRecovery installed. You can use this tool to perform backups, restore those backups, apply update.zip updates, kernels, and flash full replacement roms.
