New to rooting.. new to android.

Hello all.

I've had the gnex since launch day and am fed up with waiting on this 4.0.3 so I'd like to try out unlocking and rooting.

But don't know where to start don't know which rom to chose I honestly don't even know what a rom is lol.

I have a Mac can you all give me some advice?
Looking for better battery life and something with maybe Facebook sync..

Thanks

Wow!! What a great link. That may be the single best link I've ever seen!!

Now my lowly submissions:

Complete Guide to the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE [Verizon] – Droid Life

How to: Unlock the Galaxy Nexus Bootloader – Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

How to: Root the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE, Flash a Custom Recovery and Make a Backup [Verizon] – Droid Life

[MOD] 30 Nov r3: Superboot - rooting the GSM + LTE Galaxy Nexus - xda-developers

[HACKS] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit

After reading through all this stuff, but in my links and in Dezy's link, read everything else you can find regarding rooting these phones.

Good luck and welcome to the club (addiction??) :D

Remember when we thought Froyo would never be released for the OG Droid? Seemed like eternity. The GNex has already had two updates in under one month.

Thanks for you help guys... I chose codenameandroid, and I followed all of the instructions.... Its been booting up (after flashing the roms) for a while with the animations... is this normal?

How long should I wait? and what I do if it continues?

If you get bootlooped or other non-recoverable issue:

  1. Pull battery and replace it.
  2. Hold down the up and the down volume key and press the power button.
  3. You have a screen that shows the android with an open hatch and the word Start above it.
  4. Use the up and down keys to navigate to the “Recovery Mode” menu
  5. Press the Power Button to reboot into Recovery (CWR)
  6. Reinstall your rom or restore a backup.
