New update pushing out to Rezound on West Coast as of 8/12/2012

That version number is kind of troubling. The last SW version was 3.14.605.12 now this one is 4.03.605.1? Oh well one more update to track. If anyone gets this running. Let's hear if the radios are any better...or any feedback really.

I installed it using the instructions on the XDA forum page 22

The following is my post from XDA on page 26:

Okay, I flashed it.

Here's how:

1. Install the ICS OTA full firmware.
2. Boot it up at least once. I skipped setup and just let it boot.
3. Extract the firmware.zip out and rename to PH98IMG.zip. (Don't remove it, just extract a copy.)
4. Place the PH98IMG.zip on the SDCard.
5. Rename the entire package to Update.zip and put it on the SDCard.
6. Reboot to recovery (which should now be stock.)
7. Press vol up and power.
8. The update will start and patch your files.
9. The phone will reboot to HBOOT and load the PH98IMG.zip file you put there.
10. Vol up to install.
11. PWR to reboot.
12. Profit!

Enjoy playing!

.

Well, I followed your instructions.
I skipped steps 1 and 2 because I was stock official ICS, rooted, with s-off.
After step 7, I had to go through the menu and select the actual Update.zip file
It did take a while, and did reboot into recovery a few times.
It never did boot into hboot, it booted up normally.
It did not wipe - which is good.
Looking at the settings, about, software, more. I am on the new version number and the radio is on the new version number mentioned in earlier posts.
However, you stated I should boot into hboot, So I booted into hboot, which then took booted me into recovery, which then booted me into hboot, and I volumed-up to install the ph98img.zip which was the firmware zip file from the update.
I rebooted into the phone again.
Removed the update.zip and ph98img.zip files

I strongly suspect that I did not need to extract the firmware.zip and rename it ph98img.zip and flash it separately. However, I don't think it hurt anything doing the additional step.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. I did lose root, but it wasn't hard to boot up Amon Ra Recovery and flash the latest SuperSu zip file to get root back.

Oh, it seems this update wiped the internal sdcard, but left the external sd card untouched.

I just checked and no update yet. I'm still stock OTA, not rooted (still reading before I screw up) I assume I can update without rooting?

you need :
o Locked (or if s-off it doesn't matter)
o stock .12 from ota or Android Police
o stock .12 recovery
o Rooted doesn't matter. You will lose root during the update.

Should eventually get this update over the air, or you can download it from Android Police.

it will wipe your internal sd.

So I got to step 6 of the above directions, looked away from the phone to see what step 7 was. The phone vibrated and is now on the screen with the green down arrow and 2 in a circle around it. Says "Updating Software from Verizon Wireless" with a green progress bar. Hope I did it right.

That went through rebooted to HBOOT, pressed vol. up twice. It checked everything. Rebooted. Pressed. Vol. up to install. Upadated everything. Pressed power to reboot.

Took a little while on the white HTC screen, now says "Andoid is upgrading..." "Optimizing application [some number] of 77." I think I did it right.

Just checked and everything is right. Woo-Hoo! Not that I'll ever use global, I was hoping it may have fixed some of the bugs I was having, but no :(

Also of note, I didn't pull the battery. My case is hard to get off, so I just turned off fast boot and that worked.

I'm confused. Can we flash this like we flashed the previous ICS leaks. I haven't updated to the latest OTA ICS since i haven't got any problems with my current version(from back in march), and i hear good and bad things about the OTA ICS. So i have the OTA ICS sitting on my computer to use someday if i need it. I want to put this on my computer as well for future use, if it works. Will i have to flash the OTA ICS first, and then flash this, or once i flash the OTA will i get this automatically from real OTA update?

No. the previous ics leaks were ruu zip files which contained everything.

This is an update to the stock 3.14.605.12 official ics. This is 1/6 the size of the ics leaks.

You need to install the .12 ruu zip file first.

Then I imagine within a few days you will get this update over the air. if impatient, this update can be downloaded from Android police.

Seriously people, can you not just wait for the OTA update to come out unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure you know how to rip a part a Update.Zip and flash the multiple pieces in multiple steps... this is NOT an RUU and cannot just be flashed as simply one. It should only be attempted by very experienced users who know exactly what they are doing.

The update.zip was original posted for informational purposes only, not to be installed except by experienced rooters and developers. A few users on XDA have completely BRICKED THEIR PHONE because they couldn't wait until it was pushed and tried to flash it and didn't know what they were doing or how to fix it... patience is the key here, we know it is official but it hasn't been acknowledged by HTC or VZW yet and only a handful of people have actually gotten it OTA. Patience people, we waited and got ICS, now a few more days and we should officially have Global mode as well.

So far the benefits to the average user seem negligible, it is too early to tell if battery life is better although ONE user reported the high temp thing is much improved... other than the Global mode and maybe a few bug fixes this is nothing wondrous.

Someone at xda says he followed the directions are "borked" his phone, and Verizon is sending him a razor. I think he means bricked.

I'm going to wait. Was just curious if anyone who had installed the leak then the 12 ruu got it. Just hoping what has been said about if you get on 12 you can get future ota's is true:p
