New Update

Wait what? They're going to deactivate a feature that was physically enabled on a phone you paid for? That's like buying a car and getting a recall so they can tune it to make it slower... wtf, over?

*Edit* Was it trial based somewhere in the fine print?

When I bought mine they said the TB will have free hotspot for 2 months, then $20 a month. and a side note, new V6 Mustang only allows you to drive 110 LOL, until you root that sucker too.

They aren't removing it from the phone permanately, when you bought the phone they said the hotspot was free for a limited time. I think it makes sense that they deactivate a feature that they are going to start charging you for if you want to continue to use it. So now you have to sign up for it. It would minimize the number of complaint calls don't you think?

Huh, mine never told me that when I bought it... that's why I ask this. I read here that you also shouldn't *228 your phone, and that I was also not told about. I bought my Tbolt day one, so maybe they didn't know to inform us of this yet? Either way, I don't think I like this. The only time I thought they'd charge for the hotspot is with tiered data.

I fully understand that I should have been told about this, and maybe I should have been more perceptive also and noticed this earlier... but that's not my job, that's V's job. I don't like it at all... I'm going on business trips soon to 4G areas and planned on using my phone for my laptop in some areas. I don't exactly want to get rid of my phone or anything, but I wonder if I have any grounds to stand on right now if I want to do something about this?

If it makes you feel better, 2 weeks after I bought mine, I never owned a smartphone and have showed and shared many things about the TB with store...they did tell me about Hotspot, and that no 4G in our area, but as i owned I have learned and shared with them....like when they were troublesshooting users, having a hard time and I said..."Did you know there is a nationwide outage?" LOL

:icon_eek:

That's pretty bad that they didn't even know there was a nationwide outage.

It's not about wanting to feel better... I knew buying this phone I was going to be able to keep my old contract before they change anything and I still got the new every 2 before they nixed that also... I didn't know they were going to handcuff this phone after I bought it. Silly me, I thought that buying something I'd get use of the whole thing. If I bought it and the hotspot was deactivated upon purchase, then it's on me... them deactivating it after I bought it without telling me when I bought it is bull. This is the kinda stuff that would make me switch to another carrier for an unneutered phone. I don't care if V has the best call coverage, I'll cut off my nose to spite my face.

How is the phone being handcuffed? They are not deactivating the WiFi hotspot. It will still be there and you can still use it. It is just that after May 15th, it will no longer be free to use it. If you want to use it beginning May 16th, you will need to pay. Besides, the May 15th cut off and how the WiFi hotspot was free until then was plastered all over the big Thunderbolt signs hanging up in the Verizon stores.

Right now no matter where you are, who you bought from, if you a hacve a TB, your wireless hotspot is free for 9 more days, set it up, use it, if missing from your phone, take phone back cause they got wrong SIM, or if you were able to do a *228 and fried the SIM card then still go back to store, but Verizon disabled so you can't messup doing *228.

Another thing is, while the introductory promotion for the WiFi hotspot on the Thunderbolt is running, you get unlimited WiFi tethering. Once the 15th passes, in addition to charging you to use it, you will most likely be capped at 2 GB like it is on other handsets.

Yeah evidently there's no notification, but it appears to be available to most, if not all, TB users.
