New User w/ e-Mail Problem

I've had my Droid for 1 week now. I didn't want to post this until I had tried some resolutions myself.

I cannot set-up an embarqmail e-mail account. When I follow the simple instructions, I get an error message that says "Set-up cannot be completed. No response from the server." I've tried multiple combinations of embarqmail.com and centurylink.net. No joy. I even went back to the VZ store and the technicians there first told me it was a problem w/ Embarq...aka CenturyLink. When I told them my wife got a Blackberry Tour at the same time and her embarq e-mail works fine, they took the phone into the back room, came back and said "We'll have to research this." But, to date, no one has contacted me.

One other thing...I logged into CenturyLink on my computer w/ my user ID and password and was able to see my e-mail there...just wanted to check if I remembered my user ID and password correctly.

I really like the functionality of the Droid (my first smart phone) but I need access to my embarq e-mail account.

Can someone suggest a cure or tell me what questions to ask of the VZ store technicians? Or, should I contact CenturyLink tech service and go there instead of back to the VZ store?

Thanx in advance.

Is this information correct for you? It would help to know what kind of account you're setting up. Do you have it set up on outlook or anything?

Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.embarqmail.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.embarqmail.com

Information above is correct.

I use Microsoft Outlook for e-mail on my laptop.

I just finished a "chat" w/ a CenturyLink on-line technician. He confirmed it is a POP3/SMTP account and my password is correct. However, he had no experience setting up e-mail w/ a Droid.

So, I'm back to square 1 and will head to the VZ store in the am.

Got it fixed.

Went to the VZ Store and a tech there said the POP server had to be input as pop.embarqmail.com.

Anyway, whatever he did, I can now download my e-mail.

OK...I'm now on a path to keep the Droid.

Right, but this sets it up so that you view them all in one inbox. It's not for EVERYONE's taste. Just letting you know it's an option. You can even set your account to label the e-mails from the Pop3 account so you know which came from where.

Only drawback, you can only set it up to reply from one or the other account. [Ie, you have to decide and set whether your replies are sent from g-mail or embarq]

If you're cool with the setup you have now, maybe others will see this thread who'd like it a different way.

Again, glad you've got it working!

Thank you so much for posting this!! I have had a rough morning with my Yahoo account being hacked and switching from Comcast cable to Direct TV and to Century Link for internet. I was ready to cry and call it quits. This really helped me!

Thanks again
