No Sound from External Speaker

Being it was with in the 14 days they should have given you a new one, once the 14 days are past then they could go refurb. Is your refurb phone working okay at least?

New phone works fine and you can't tell it from new however it did have a "factory new refurb" sticker on it. I went to the Verizon Store in the next town over and they did not give me one that day but instead said they had to ship me one. Two days later Fedex delivered the phone and it was a refurb.

Wonderful. Upgraded and ordered the maxx on the 1st received it on the 12th and as of yesterday I started having this sound issue. So even if I go in today which is still within 14 days I will end up with a refurbished phone. Really getting frustrated with all these lemon phones. Its definitely hardware as the trick with pressing on the top of the Kevlar back brings the sound back.

Ugh I do not want to hear this.. I really hope this is not going to be a big problem. If this happens again to me I am going to be very unhappy..

Great find Edoublep!

Mine stopped working again last week...I tried safemode, factory reset and still did not work. Then the sound came back by itself. Yesterday it stopped working again and did as you advised near the speaker, and now it is working fine.

I am not surious to see how often this happens and if it starts happening with more RAZRs....

Hey All...
Edoublep is on to something....
I've had this problem for the last couple days and even took it to a verizon store.
They had no idea what was causing this and was about to order another phone when the speaker started working.
It just happened again today and I tried Edoublep's suggestion and it worked.
There is a short in the Razr Maxx case. This is not a sofware/app problem.
Hope this helps.....

So its a short huh? Well I went in today and ordered a replacement. I'm told it will be a new phone and not a refurbished phone (still within my 14 day period). Guess this means the replacement will end up doing the same thing. Maybe getting a case for the phone will help prevent that area from vetting pressed on and causing the speaker to short.

I had a case on mine and it still did it. Two days later my battery failed. Hope this is not going to repeat itself.

Oh good to know. Thanks for saving me from wasting time and money by getting a case.

so it looks like the case pressing 'fix' isn't permanent. Its hapenningto me about once a day I noticed that this phone has quite a powerful vibrate feature. I'm going to disable vibrate and see what happens. I honestly am considering taking this thng apart :) and poking arrround. I LOVE this phone other than the sound issue and Verizon's curret LTE offerings aren't impressive.

Keep y'all posted!

I know that at least in the OG Droid and D2, the speaker was a separate module with contacts that simply pressed against small tabs on the motherboard, but I don't remember if the same holds true for the RAZR. I'll do some exploration today and report back. If it is, that would explain the pressing having worked for you. If it's an actual solder joint then it's time to take it back.

What I think is something is faulty. It seems the Maxx's that came out around launch are fine the problem seems to have started with the 2/29 leap sale and those phones after. Mine failed last week and then there where 4 or 5 more that posted about it not soon after. The regular RAZR's seem to be fine and I am guessing the same speakers where used. The question is was it a bad batch or did they change parts etc and is it over or going to continue until its noticed. I am hoping it was a weird glitch in a batch and the phones coming out now are fine. Time will tell I guess.

This is actually really good information. It might be a bad batch, (i hope). If there is not DIY solution (im willing to crack open this thing), I will keep returning it under the warranty until I get a good one. I love the heck out of the this phone. Its completely perfect other than the speaker issue.

I picked my RazrMaxx up the same week it was released, so I do not think it has to do with the BOGO....

I have not had the issue again since I pressed by the speaker... I am sure it will happen again though. I will be curious to hear what the findings are if anyone finds out how this speaker is connected internaly.

Not saying all the phones before the end of Feb where fine it just seemed the people that got them started to have sound issues 2-3 weeks later where there was nothing mentioned about it before. Hopefully it was just a minor thing and all is good now! :)
