Noob

theme is more just looks(main color scheme), where roms have added extras like extra functions, boot animations, lock screens, apps, scripts, etc

Then custom roms are what I am looking for.How easy is it to ruin or damage my droid 2 in the rooting process and post rooting rom gathering?

rooting process is very simple. just follow the guide verbatim and ull be fine

there are SBF files that you can flash if you truly get stuck with trying out ROMs but that requires a computer.

if you can follow directions posted for ROMs and just read before trying them out, you shouldnt have any issues.

Awesome.Okay,I am just afraid because this is my first time hacking anything.I really appreciate all the information as well.

no problem. just spend the time reading and ull be fine.

may i also suggest Titanium Backup after you acquire root - its an awesome app bc itll backup apps AND the data. switching ROMs usually requires a wipe of data/cache which will erase everything. this app backs up everything on ur SD card and can be restored after installing ROMs

What roms and themes would you say are "best" or would just suggest? Is there a place I can look at pictures of what they will look like?

nope. tehy need to be applied in custom recovery and you cant get that without rooting. the free version of Rom Manager will flash a recovery image for you after you root

Oh.Is using rom manager better/safer than manually installing roms? When flashing new roms should I revert back to stock first if using a custom rom?

in my experience (and reading others on here) rom manager seems to cause some problems. i always just download the files off of these forums. but then again many use Rom Manager so its up to you what u want. I still have the app and use Clockwork Recovery (custom recovery made by the same guy)

switching usually just requires wiping data/cache in recovery then installing new one.

Alright, this is all starting to make sense to me.I think I will give it a week(if I can wait that long) and take a shot at rooting my droid.

I keep seeing more and more things making me want to do it tonight!I know I should wait though until I can truly understand all of this.
