I have the direct dial setup and the favorites folder setup and have been using them for about 2 weeks now. I also tried a few apps like tap dialing and others. I still miss the original numbered speed dial feature that most phones have. worked the best for me. When will we see a update for it or a app that does just this?

And I miss the clicks as the numbers spun around on my granny's old rotary dial phone... Why can't we affix a wheel to the front of the Droid? So, you want 9 people that you can Speed Dial? Put stars next to their names and they are in the started list... nine of 'em straight in a row for your one touch pleasure. Or use the audio search - say Call WhatsHerName and it will start dialing for you.

Yes, I know old phones had this... but that is because they had no other options... it is time to retrain your brain and get caught up. You got a powerful piece of equipment in your hands, use it... don't cripple it just because "that is what I used to do"

Ranting aside... Check out Easy Dialer Pro (or any one of the dozens of other dialers in Marketplace, I am sure one of them will fit the bill for you)

yeah, who actually KNOWS their friends' phone numbers these days.... my friends have phones in area codes all over the US but all live in boston. seems everyone is a transplant.

Apparently so. If something bothers you, why would you take time out of your day to make a comment about it?

Great question. I, like you, really miss the simple push and hold a number for a quick dial. So far I have not been able to find anything that makes that possible.

If you do, please post it so we can all benefit.

just because something is old doesn't mean its bad. i too like the one number speed dial.

Nope, doesn't make it bad... but at the same time you can't blame a new phone for dropping an antiquated feature. Fortunately, thanks to the open Android platform, there are apps that can give this feature to those that want it.

One reason I liked it was number 2 was wife cell and number 3 was wife work. With the other NEW option I need to have separate contacts with different picture to make it a one touch speed dial or click on a favorite then choose work or cell. It was a whole lot easier to just push 2 or 3 for this type of situation. I do like having new features and can “retrain my brain” but the old way works better for me for this situation. The fact that all other NEW models I played with in the store had it means something. The droid is great and powerful I agree. In fact it is so much so that it should be able to have 10 different ways for speed dials so everyone is happy!

Old School Speed Dialer

Not sure if you're still looking for a solution, but the Old School Speed Dialer app gives you numbered speed dialing.

either people cant read or they cant search..its been said over and over that there are apps in the market that will do EXACTLY that..one touch speed dial.

OLD SCHOOL SPEED DIALER IS 1 OF THOSE APPS.

Go to your home screen…choose a left or right screen that has space to add another shortcut.
Press and hold on the screen, and choose SHORTCUTS, then DIRECT DIAL. Choose someone you want to direct dial.

Then a symbol will be there for direct dialing with ONE TOUCH!!! :icon_ banana:

Maybe I misread, but I thought the OP wanted something specifically integrated with the default dialer where you enter a number and call. Adding a one touch shortcut to the home screen is cool if that's what you want, but something integrated with the actual dialing system that leaves the home screen free has its place, too. To each his own. :)
