"Official" Beautiful Widgets Skinning Thread

I guess it would help to have a side by side comparo.

NakedGaremlin on left and NakedGaremlin2 on right.

@Dave,
I like them both - put them both up there!

Thanks!

I finally figured out what was bothering me about the first NakedGaremlin version. When I created that Font for "GT40" I moved it up as far as possible to give more "clear" area for the car graphics to show as uncovered as possible.

When I simply removed the background leaving the font "high" it has felt disconnected from the weather and there was too much "clear" space between the 2 elements.

I have now centered the font and I feel it works bettter now. Again your opinions before I send this as a replacement(for NakedGaremlin) is appreciated. With this change I personally feel NakedGaremlin2 is no longer needed and will abandon it and finish some newer skin ideas I have.

Old version on the left and new version on the right.

OK, here are 2 more Skins I have been wanted to get done. Nothing fancy but the people who like to see as much of their walls as possible may like Naked Droid SeeThru. This finishes up all the ideas I have for the Droid Clock Font with a Naked background (for now :-).

"NakedDroidSeeTHru" and "NakedDroidBW"(Black w/White)

I like the smaller font with the space filled better. Is that one up on the server now or did you replace it with the bigger font like the one a few posts up???

The new version with the centered font will show up(replace the original)
with the next server update. I did not submit the larger/taller font version.

i've optimized both of my SenseUI styled skins using PNGCRUSH & PNGOUT to get them to be the smallest possible file size for optimal performance. I've never published my "Charcoal" colored version, so here they are. Beautifully designed, performance optimized skins for BW.

Thanks 928 Droid!

Everyone has there little thing that interests them. It is obvious your gig is making nice themes for the beautiful widgets.

I just want to say thanks for the cool skins. I have enjoyed your work. Problem is I cant just stay with one! :)

These are awesome....Anyone know how to make them naked. I tried replacing the naked backround to the SenseUI file but the white flip part was deleted.

They are similar to 928's but the boxes are tighter together.

Due to all the questions about how to use and install skins in Beautiful Widgets I decided to make a "Beautiful Widgets for Dummies" :-), a user manual to make things easier for those not familiar with it.

Dave...Great set of instructions. I thought the following might be helpful information to add to post #2. (in an abbreviated form)

I had gone through this thread looking for where to put a skin if I were to get one from this thread that wasn't available from the BW site. I've seen posts mentioning to create a skins folder or to select the skins folder, but I have managed to miss the posts that specifically say where that folder is located. Sorry if it exists and I missed it. As this thread is for sharing skins others have made I thought the following might be useful to anyone new to this:

Using Astro (downloadable from the Market for free) to search for "airport", a skin I had downloaded previously, let me determine the skins were located on the SD card in the "data/beautifulwidgets/skins" folder.

Next I grabbed SenseUI.zip from here, with my phone, and it downloaded by default to my download directory on the card. I wanted to get this new skin accessable by the BW app and thought it unlikely it would scan all locations looking for skins. Knowing where the rest were stored I did the following to move the new skin into place:

Using Astro long-press on the file and choose Edit.
Select Move
Navigate to the above mentioned skins directory
Select Edit from the top toolbar
Select Paste (and the zip file should now be in this folder)
Long-press the zip file and select Extract
Long-Press the _MACOSX folder and EDIT then Delete (not sure if all skins will have this folder within the zip or not)

For this skin I also ended up with a background image in my skins folder. I moved this elsewhere. It wouldn't hurt to leave it there but for file management reasons I want all my wallpapers in the same area so I moved that elsewhere.

one more...this version is modified just a touch from the charcoal, it matches the HTC SenseUI themes launcher Matt made over at alldroid.

about the naked versions... all of these HTC style themes are made for personal use only, i just felt like sharing them with you guys. I have no current plans to make them naked...maybe some day down the road if i'm bored.
