Official myLock thread - we don't like the lockscreen

So when I do the slider I want to make the myLock version to take advantage of that idea, minus shortcut launching, but also use the source code from the existing unlock slider to provide the default one also as an option. The a3 feature release probably won't have either, making it so the back & home touch keys do unlock when you have awakened the custom lockscreen.
I'm very happy to hear that you do plan to offer the existing unlock slider as an option. The reason I like that idea is that I'm used to it. I'm just about to the point where I can unlock the phone without really having to look at it. And, I do like the slider because of the protection it offers against accidental unlocking.

My wife actually wants this even more than I do. She puts the phone in her purse, where other objects can easily press the top button, and she's worried that elimination of the slider would cause too many pocket calls for her. She's had that issue with other devices. But she has small hands, and finds the top button hard to reach when holding the droid in one hand. She and I agree that it would be nice to be able to wake the screen with the camera button, but would still like to see the existing slide-to-unlock presented.

I'm really looking forward to using this app when it gets to that point!

Gotta say that I love this app! ALso to the people worried about it waking up and making a call. You do realize that our screens require a physical touch to open apps/do various tasks on our phone. In other words I don't think its very likely that something in your purse/pocket can touch anything on the screen since it requires a warm human finger. I am thinking right on this right??? because you cant use a stylus or anything like that on our screen its goota be your finger. So I can't see how something would "touch" your phone app and then also dial numbers and "touch" the call button. makes sense to me anyways... lol

Installed 0204.... not running persistent mode at the moment (don't want anything in my notification bar)..... initial finding is that my phone will not 'sleep'. The screen won't black out unless I manually press the power button.

After installing, my screen timeout setting kept clearing from 30 seconds to nothing. So every time I 'awoke' the phone, it immediately blacked out. Did a reboot of the phone and was able to keep the 30 second time out to remain in the settings, but now the screen isn't turning off at all.

Screen time out setting keeps clearing out. Not sure what's going on.

Edit: Screen will not time out with persistent mode not enabled. I'm trying in persistent mode now.

I would love to have more time to swipe the unlock... if you don't get to it immediately you have to start all over. I could not find any time settings for this like the time settings on the sleep feature.

Your bug doesn't seem to duplicate for me. Having never tested non-persistent yet in this set of revisions, I tried launching with persistent unchecked, and also launching persistent and unchecking it to have the running service turn off the notification.

I think what actually might be happening to you is a bug with the stay awake setting. I need to add back key handling to the settings screen because if you press back after checking stay awake, it cancels the visual check but the code doesn't react to the change and can cause an unexpected state of stay awake that screws up the rest of the functionality that is expecting auto-sleep.

Also, do you have any task killer or other app that runs a service?
Check running services under the Applications category in settings

I just discovered this app - While I am thrilled to be able to avoid the lock screen (a button and then a swipe is redundant imo), one option I'd like with this app is the ability to keep the phone at full brightness maybe 15 or 20 seconds before it dims. If I'm reading an article or something I cant read the entire screen in 5 seconds. It might be enough for me to uninstall this app unfortunately. Am I missing this option somewhere?

Task killers are the devil. I don't have one :) No services other than native ones. (Google apps, etc.)

I'm rooted.... but alpha 1 runs fine.

mtbhk44, this functionality has been an idea for the app from the start. My co-worker and I both noticed the need for an on demand brighten that would time itself out. It seems possible, there are a few widgets out there which toggle brightness in stages. Before we exactly knew what we wanted to do with the app we knew we wanted to access notification panel from the lockscreen and be able to get a brighten via button shortcut or shake. We haven't done any implementation yet, but I am leaning toward allowing shake to create a 40% bright that runs for 20 seconds. The setback is that to get the brightness to actually change in real time you have put a window or dialogue onto the screen which controls the brightness in real time. Without doing that, when you change the system brightness setting it doesn't kick in till the next screen sleep & wakeup.

The twitter I use to post random rants or progress is @mylockandroid

I went ahead and pushed out the 2c build as our v1 market release since we've given it a month to find the most important fixes (like the handcent compatibility) and my direct co-workers who've been using it constantly have reported rock-solid satisfaction.

Right now I'm working out the last kinks in security idle timeout & a pattern mode concurrent custom lockscreen, and focusing on coding the clock display and music controls that will show up if you lock with music playing. I'll continue to push out a3 revisions till we have everything in a great working state to push as the first market update.

I love the idea. There are still a couple of bugs that I noticed (the dev is aware and is working on them). Once all the kinks are out I will gladly reinstall. Once it works I would even pay for it.

Thanks for supporting the project so far. I decided to push the alpha 2c version into the market today just to try to reach more people with it and get more feedback on what would be useful to people with their lockscreen mod.

Please leave us a good review if you have a minute.

You're in the Market? Congrats! It's been a long time coming...
Will download to help give some feedback. :)

Just curious, what's the status of making a custom phone unlock screen like the iPhone uses instead of the slide to unlock?

Also, are you guys experiencing any lag with the custom lock screen?

Lastly, how much have your butt dials and accidental unlocks gone up with just the power button as unlock for example?

Ok so I just installed the version from the market...I'm not sure which version I tried earlier but this one is much better. Keep it up dev!

I've been using this app since it's first alpha, not a single butt dial. The power button isn't something I've found that gets 'accidentally' pressed. This is why I prefer this app over "Screen Mode Widget".... because it allows the volume rocker and camera button to 'wake' the phone.... this leads to butt dials and pocket mishaps :icon_eek:

There's slight lag, but it's gotten so much better as development has gone on... so I can only imagine it will improve.
