Official myLock thread - we don't like the lockscreen

Good opportunity to find out what's causing the stop, Dom --- do you have foreground/settings shortcut notification mode on? Which build are you running?

i uninstalled the old one and downloaded the new one. same thing it stays locked no matter what settings are on and off in any combination.

Sounds like crashes in the other version caused the service to get blocked. That's a safety feature in android against any programs that have a crash loop to stop it from bringing the whole device down or stop it from finishing booting. Uninstalling, stopping/starting, even turning it off can't pass through the safety block that happens. You'll need to actually restart the device by removing the battery. The only other cause of such behavior would be if you have another program that is trying to interact with the keyguard and screen wake settings.

pullin the battery worked. and i like it now loaves the screen open while on a call. that was super annoying to have to open it to close a call.

Excellent, glad it worked. Added a troubleshooting page into the wiki that explains that fix.

I have almost finished the beta of myLock lite, which has no configurable options, simply provides the most unobtrusive lockscreen disable method that you toggle on or off by clicking on the 1x1 widget. work to hit beta on myLock complete is also happening. working with other devs as we add in shake support and unravel the mysteries off adding what's called WidgetHost to the welcome mode so you can really stick widgets or app launch shortcuts on there.

I also learned that mylock works great on nexus one. the trackball doesn't wake up with its lockscreen rules specify this.
I'm kinda jealous of nexus one but i like my droid keyboard! ;]
I'd switch if I had a rock solid multi-touch virtual qwerty, on my iPhone i was very very fast with the virtual. the only thing preventing me from such on android is that it trips when you get going too fast, due to no multitouch

Alrighty- myLock lite first version is available for download. http://mylockforandroid.googlecode.com/files/myLock-lite_v0.apk
To use it, add the widget to your home screen. There is no app icon, it's light weight!

The widget button isn't polished yet. We'll save that for market release version. Don't use the recent apps switcher all that much? Then the lite version is perfect for you.

If you're like me just put your most often used apps in your home screen. If you need it, you still can, but it doesn't get unlocked till you press home once after unlocking through myLock lite. The actual initialization of that feature is the only thing that slows down the other versions versus in lite where we just put it off until you press the home button.

I love the Android Platform

I was using my calculator while grocery shopping today and had to keep turning off the screen so I would not inadvertently create inputs. It was a drag to unlock the screen every time so I decided to look for a program to keep me from having to do that.

A couple hours of research and trying different programs and I found this. The "lite" version looks exactly what I'm looking for and is currently running on my Droid (thinking about getting the N1 when it hits Verizon but don't tell my wife). I first used your C program and was getting ready to delete the program when I saw that seeing the lock screen before the unlock was normal. That was a deal breaker but luckily, I kept reading the thread and found the "light" version.

When you get this to the Market, I will probably pay for it even though I have it. Don't over-complicate the program because some of us just want simple things to do, like not having to unlock the phone.

Keep up the good work!!

Oops....Don't know what happened

- lite mode, which is the alpha 1 method. the benefit is you will never get a flicker of the lockscreen, resulting in a slightly faster and smoother user experience.

When I first installed lite, I did not get the flicker of the lock screen and now I do. What do I need to do to stop this?

Note - Using "Screen Mode" until we figure out why the flicker is still there. Screen Mode turns on with any button pushed and I don't like that.

Thanks

Is it a delayed flicker? That's the flicker that you see in the complete mode. You'd wake up the screen, sometimes a second could go by, then a visible flash of the lockscreen sliders (that flash is the OS letting us officially through the lockscreen). Lite mode never asks for that official stop. The only time the stop happens is if you press home, and when you that you'll see a flash that is similar but a black screen instead of the lock sliders.

If it stayed on during a call, you get a lockscreen when the phone is designed to never have the lockscreen. In other words there is no lockscreen to exit while calls are in progress, so all versions of myLock disable during phone calls to avoid causing lockscreens that shouldn't happen. This also means that if you press home to do things while in call, but allow the screen to sleep, you will have to slide to unlock. The OS only disables the lockscreen while the phone screen is up. I think that it will be possible to prevent that in future beta releases, but I am not sure yet. That one's on the pending list along with whether we can have myLock let you answer a call with the power button instead of the unlock slider.

it stopped working again yesterday, back to not working at all. so i loaded this new one and the only way it is working is if i have the widget enabled. which kinda defeats the purpose off the app. so you have to hit the bottom on top, and hit the home button now. or hit the bottom on top then use the slider. to me its the same function using a different action.

and the screen locks again while in a call. so you have to unlock the screen just to end the call.

If you are saying the split second where the lockscreen clock or sliders might be visible (and keep in mind that may be longer like a full second if you are doing slide open to unlock due to the delay the CPU actually creates for itself when it does the rotation) is your deal breaker, I truly am sorry. I have detailed the reasons for those behaviors in our FAQs.

You could use screen mode widget or lockscreen disabler-- I can also program a version that works like that. Due to some of the security choices made for android by Google, that mode will always allow any key to wake up the screen. I can make it so only power key & sliding open would dismiss the lockscreen automatically, and where use of other keys would cause a semi-locked screen to be in place that could still be dismissed by home or back. I already have plans to create a custom lock of this kind so you could still quick unlock but also have a customized lockscreen that would display useful information or tools immediately on wakeup.

With your issues Dom, I can't understand exactly what it is doing that's not expected from your description. I've been running the lite mode since I posted it and have not experienced one duplicable problem in the phone or with it failing to do the unlock. Could you give more detail like what other programs you are using and a detailed description of everything that happens when it doesn't work as expected?

chain of events....

1/5 - didnt like i had to use the slider to press the button on top or slide the keypad out then use the slider on the screen to unlock it.

1/6 - downloaded this app and it worked to do what i wanted. you press the button on top and it by passed the slider lock and went right to the home screen

1/8 - app stopped working and had to use the slider regardless of what setting was begin used within mylock.

1/8 - installed a new version of mylock and it still didnt work. put pulling the battery and rebooting did.

1/9 - app stopped wroking again they way it did prior. dont know how long it took to stop working.

1/10 - installed new version on mylock. it does work but instead of hitting the button on top and it taking you to the home screen you have to hit the home symbol on the bottom of the phone. then it will take you into the home screen.

if you dont have the widget enabled it will stay locked when you hit the top button and you have to use the slider lock. which defeats the purpose of the app. I pulled the battery and rebooted it and it does the same thing still.

basically looking to hit the button on top and have it go to the home screen as it did before without having to hit the home button.
