Cool...my GTalk is droidieang at gm....... hit me up if you need any help. I have the system and framework folders ready to go and just need the rest of the dump to port it over for D2 with no Star Wars stuff. I also will have the Star Wars full ROM for those that want it on D2.

I would complete the root steps I provided you earlier - via the terminal app.

It really is easy. Just take it a step at a time and verify what you type.

flea, I will try that root tonight and hopefully it will work.

Moto, is gtalk an app?

Gmail chat...can use in browser or on device. add @gmail.com from the name I gave above if you use it. If not PM me when/if any help is needed.

I got my phone yesterday. At first, when I heard about it, I didn't even want it. I figured it was limited edition and would be sold out really quick. But then my mom came home with the dummy phone (she works at vzw) and I loved it, so she ordered it for me. And like I said, I got it yesterday and love it :)

:welcome: to the Forum and Congrats on the R2D2 [D2]

I've got one, too. Had regular Droid 2 for a few days, then took advantage of 30-day return policy to swap it for this bad boy. I'm waiting for the sbf to become available before I experiment with it (though I did root it already).

Does anyone know if custom ROMs for regular D2 will work on this? I know it'd be a firmware step backwards, but I tried Epic Unleashed and mostly loved it. But I don't want to try unless I know it won't devour my phone (even though I do have a clockwork recovery backup).

Just wait a little bit and look in the ROMs section here - Motaboy is going to have 2.4.5 ROMs (what's on the R2D2) out later tonight if he hits the schedule he set for himself. :)

You are correct in noting that there is not a D2 2.4.5 SBF at this point, so the R2D2 "go back" is a little more complicated than that for the standard D2s right now, but it's still pretty easy.

What you would do is SBF to 2.2.20, then root, load the D2 bootstrapper and install Clockwork recovery, and then restore the backup you made (you did make a backup before you modded anything, right? :)) of your R2D2 system right after you rooted it but before you changed anything else.

Then you're back to where you started. If you wanted to return the phone for some reason, unroot and factory reset and it's completely stock again. :)

Thanks! I knew most of that stuff already (precautions, returning to stock before returning to store), but I'm sure not everyone did. I read on XDA that 2.2.20 won't work on the R2D2, and the poor guy bricked his phone. So...I think I'll wait.

But good to know a ROM is incoming tonight!

By the way, someone earlier in the thread mentioned that the 123 easy-root worked for their X but didn't work for them on the R2D2. Give it a few tries. It works, I promise. I've successfully done it (and unrooted) with that method twice...long story.

The notification sounds are really nice. There was a lot more r2d2 noises than I realized. I can't wait to get then on my droid x :)

Yeah, the bootloader gets annoying though. Hearing Artoo bleep and bloop at full volume with absolutely no way to shut his metal trap gets embarrassing when booting in public and is quickly draining my love for the character. :P

That was me that tried the 123 ez root on the r2d2 and it didn't work. Did you use that method to root your r2d2?

Yes. I wasn't sure it would work at first (and then I had an unrelated problem with the adb program) but I tried it a few times and it finally recognized and worked. Make sure if USB debugging doesn't show up in the notification window in PC mode, switch to Charge Only. The USB debugging thing is crucial.
