Okay....sorry I am confused...but will we be able to SAFELY get Android 2.1 on Droid?

Right on 928! +1.

In addition, if I'm correct, we have a CPU and a dedicated GPU, whereas the N1 has that snapdragon 1Ghz performing both functions. So to me other than maybe the memory increase, both should perform on par.

Yes, that's correct. The Droid has a 550 Mhz Cortez A8 (actually, it is a 600 Mhz underclocked to 550), with a (I think) 200 Mhz GPU (not sure on the make/model there). The RAM will make a difference, but I don't think it will be that noticeable in real-world applications, plus we get 16 GB of storage included, the N1 only has 4 GB.

yeah that 16gb is actually a huge plus, especially now that they have talked about installing apps to the sd card in the near future, that means N1 owners are going to be going out and buying bigger memory cards and droppin quite a few bucks on it too

when i initially saw that the N1 was priced cheaper than the droid i was like mannn thats pretty sweet but then i realized that they get a little sneak attack in with the 8gb less, thats pretttttttyyyy sneaky of google, i must say

And to get a 16 GB just like the one in the Droid (a class 2 Sandisk), you are looking at $40-50 if you shop around.

Copy of e-mail that confirms 2.1 soon...

It's been a wild ride the past couple of weeks with news of the Nexus One, Android 2.1 and the Droid. We've got some good news and some even better news for the Droid nation out there.

First of all, we've always supported choice in the market... choice promotes innovation, competition and of course competitive pricing, so it's always a good thing for consumers. Google has just made sure that there will be plenty of that with new-edge, high tech cell phones.

The Nexus One has been announced and it currently is available for sale both unlocked and unsubsidized or via contract on T-Mobile. However, more importantly for us it's also available on the Verizon network starting in Spring of 2010.

The Droid of course is a great phone and has great hardware and some features that the Nexus One does not... and that's when we were excited to hear from the Google team that Android 2.1 should be "open sourced" and available for use on handsets that support it (this includes the Droid) within the next couple of days. Expect to see all the goodness of 2.1 on your Droid very soon, including Live Wallpapers and the recently announced Google Earth for Android which will be available from the App store very soon.

yeah that email has been floating around, the hopefully 2.1 will get open sourced soon, and as for the sd card, yeah $50 for sure, prolly more if you just buy it from any old store

Yeah, the $40-50 price I found was on NewEgg, Best Buy or something you are probably looking at $60+.
