On the Droid Camera

I just observed something very strange pertaining to my droid's camera. You know how people are gripping about the slow camera times? Well for some reason when I took a picture at maximum zoom the camera did its thing noticably faster. That is, it saved the picture and allowed me to take a picture faster than it does when its not zoomed at all. What do you peeps think? Does the same thing happen to you?

That would make sense since the Droid doesn't have optical zoom. When you "zoom in," the camera just crops off the outer edges of the picture. Thus, the overall picture size is smaller, so saving the picture should take less time.

I've only taken a couple quick snap shots...but is there a zoom function? Someone will surely be asking me soon so I want to be prepared.
