Only had the Droid for 2 months, now it'salready the old phone

I think what he is trying to say is that the iPhone has been out for a few years now and it is still Apples one and only flagship phone device. There are not multiple phones that run the Apple OS. That is what I wanted with the Droid and Android. Beside obvious reasons, they are perfect. If the Nexus didnt come out with 2.1, we (droid) owners would still be at the top. Now we have to wait to be caught up. The ball and power is now in Googles court. Until they have synergy with the OS and Device, we will always be wanting the next phone. They really hit the ball out of the park with the Droid. Im just sad that they are not continuing to stand behind it as the savior. Google is biting the hand that fed it. I think that most people wouldnt even know about Android if it wasnt for the Droid. The casual consumer at least.
how often does the iphone get an update? winmo?

Motorola is the Apple in this equation you want. It is up to Motorola to keep their phone updated and Google MUST stay one step ahead of Motorola, they make the OS, Motorola makes the OS work on Droid. The SDK was released to everyone only a few weeks ago, most companies with Android on their phones are working to update. Yes N1 got 2.1 before Droid, but Droid got 2.0 and 2.01 before who?

I would be happy with one Android OS update a year and extremely happy with one every 6 months.

i agree with those who have said that this is more or a less a crying shame. why is it always a contest?

the droid is a good phone, and it's on verizon. if the N1 is so much better because of 2.1 then hop on over to tmobile. but what happens when the next phone after the N1 comes out? Those early termination fees can be a kicker, is it really worth it to keep up with the joneses?

not to mention, how's that 3G working on N1?

I think the "casual customer" could care less about Android, WinMo, or any of it. In fact, the casual user that wants to step up from a feature phone to a smart phone probably went with an iPhone.

I don't think Motorola has "abandoned their savior" as it is phrased. Abandoned it? because they released the Devour running Donut? hmm...

Or abandoned because it hasn't pushed 2.1 yet, in the whole 3 weeks the sdk has been released? hmm...

Try being on VZW with a WinMo phone, where microsoft takes eons to release an update and then verizon adds another 6 months to a year to release it, but those in the know already have it because folks have hacked it and already gotten out the bugs that it should have never been released with to start? And never been passed on by VZW in their "testing?"

And I seriously don't think the Droid is is the "Android savior" that has made Android known to the casual user. Maybe for Verizon specific users, since there is only the Droid and Droid Eris, but for all cell users as a whole, definitely not.

Patience young paduwan...

I'm guessing everyone neglected to see that the OP already admitted that he just saw the pic, and wasn't aware of the specs.

With that being said, I do dig the optical pad. The fact that there is no way to precisely manipulate my cursor without opening the keyboard is probably my only gripe with the phone.

Who are you tellin?! LOL! The first few weeks with the Droid, this was killing me. But I've actually gotten a lot more precise now with my finger, and hardly ever have to use the D-pad to move the cursor now.

Droid is not an old phone yet and as for the N1 being better, I disagree. There are a lot more people using the Droid because of Verizon and Motorola's huge advertising campaign behind the Droid. That being said, I have not noticed any commercials for the Droid as of late which makes me nervous. My droid is just as fast and exciting as the N1 minus the animated wallpapers (which are cool). I can still silence the apple fanboys with my Droid and at the end of the day, that is good enough for me!
