[Opinion] The New Google Hate Clickbait

I do. If you polled every person in my life, friends, family, co-workers... I'd bet one person out of maybe 150 have even heard of this device.

So why do you think that is? Google makes gazillions of dollars every year which means that they can clearly afford top ranked advertising. The few adverts that they have released were so terrible that you would be hard pressed to even understand what the product was at the end of the commercial.

This reminds me of Apple. They've had great products for a very long time, but you never heard of them or actually saw them anywhere. Once they started getting shelf time in stores they sky rocketed.

Marketing. Period. That's what Google sucks at surprisingly. And it's what got Apple where it is today.
Samsung started making great ads...and they quickly became the top Android maker.
HTC started making horrible ads.... And look where they are today.

The problem is that Google still treats the Nexus line like it's the days of old, when it was something that only offered something special to geeks and techies like we are. The fact is that literally everyone but the Verge is singing the praises of Huawei's newest Nexus, yet Google is failing on the marketing front. I see ads for it when I'm clicking around but that's because it's something that I recently searched out.

The average consumer knows nothing of a Nexus device; what it is, why it is, and why it's a different experience. Google needs to one, find a way to improve their marketing, and two, decide what their devices are going to be and drive that point home. We know that Android is 'Different. Together.', though I honestly doubt that again the average person would be able to quote even that.

While I am the first in line to bash Google for the lousy marketing I have to share this.
Buddy called me today. Today!

"Hey, Tony, have you heard About this Nexus 6P?"
"Uh, yea..."
"looks so nice. And it gets Google updates first?"
"yea, usually"
"And there's this Google Fi thing? What is that?"

This is from not-an-enthusiast.
I was floored.

I would have reacted the exact same way as everyone around me only knows one thing: iPhone
