OTA Updates Possible Before The 11th?

I got the maps update. No big update though.

Okay I am going to say this in not true.... I have checked info center for any type of alerts, spoke with some friends in tech support, called our area manager to see if he has had anything come down the pipeline. And nothing, nada, 0! Only thing I could find is what has been posted on various sites that a OTA push is coming in the upcoming weeks. So I am going to say that the original date of around the 11th will be the most accurate target date.

But I could be wrong... if anyone gets a update let us know. I will keep you posted if I find anything out more.

I think Wi-Fi will work...

System Update while You Are Roaming

1. If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear or as mentioned above you can manually update by by selecting "Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates".

1. To enable Wi-Fi go to "Settings" > "Wireless & networks". Press "Wi-Fi" to enable.

1. To connect to an available "Wi-Fi network" select "Wi-Fi settings" and select an available an Wi-Fi network or manually add a Wi-Fi network that has had security settings established.

If the system update fails to install you will get the following error screen. However, this only means the software did not install properly. Remove and re-insert the battery and power the device back on. The device will power back on with original software and will prompt you once again to install the system update.

Just hit later on the notice and copy the file and upload it to the forum somewhere. Or email it to me.

Ok...according to my buddy at VZW tech support the update is rolling out as follows......@ noon today it went out to a 1000 people, @ midnight it will be pushed out to 9000 more, then every 48 hours it will be pushed out to 10,000 people and finally on day 3 it will be pushed out to 200,000 people a day until it is pushed out to everyone. He did not however know who was getting it when, he said it appeared to have no rhyme or reason to who gets it when.

Sounds like day 3 will be Dec 11th... imagine that!

He did not however know who was getting it when, he said it appeared to have no rhyme or reason to who gets it when.

Sounds like day 3 will be Dec 11th... imagine that!

Yep right on time. To get a little off topic here. If that plan holds out and VZW and Motorola and Google get this rolled by Frdiay night nation wide. Maybe RIMM should take a note on the how to for it. Cause this "release" is still 4 days early by my count

Hmmm...10,000 by the end of the day Monday, 20,000 by Wednesday, and then 200,000 a day starting Friday. If there really are close to a million Droids sold then some may next get it for another week.

Are they waiting to see if everything goes well before they really commit?

Isn't the server ability to upload only 1000 updates today the same as its gonna be Wednesday when they will to 20 times that much, and then Friday when it will be 200 times that much?

Does the update make you loose any apps or settings?

Got tons of stuff on my droid now and it is just where I want it to be... does the update erase or reset anything? Do you need to do a backup and restore for any reason?
