I've got a silly question for anyone or Skulls seeing as he started this thread. I updated my setCPU to 2.0.0c which is current. What I'm confused by is is the Advanced Tab. On mine when I originally looked at it it looked like the screen shot on the OP. however I went and changed Sampling to 50000 and Up threshold to 75 leaving the rest of the field the way they are. As soon as I hit Apply it changes everything to as follows tho

Sampling = 300000
Up thres = 75
down thres = 20
Ignore = 0
Freq step % = 5

Then once the screen goes out and I go back in and look it displays like this

Sampling = 300000
up thres = 75
Ignore = 0
Powersave Bias = 0

FYI I am using p3's LV 1.2 Ghz kernel. Also this is the first time I've actually messed around with the Advanced settings. So I'm just trying to get some clarification if this is normal the way these change and display or if I'm doing something wrong possibly. And lastly being I'm new to this part of it is it even worth me messing with the Advanced tab to begin with. Thanks in advance for any input/help on this.

I have only seen what you list as the second screen. I believe the first is probably for a different type of phone but I am not 100% sure.

Haven't been around this thread for a month or 2. Once i got my SetCPU settings dialed in thanks to this thread, I didn't need to come back! :)

I was previously using DarkEdge (2.1) and had my advanced settings for setcpu at 50000, 75, 0, 0. Those settings were recommended by Skull a couple months back and worked perfectly for me. (thanks, btw!)

I just downloaded the most recent setcpu update and also I'm giving Sapphire 0.7.0 (2.2) a try. What would be some good advanced settings now? Should I keep on using 50000, 75, 0, 0? The kernel that came with Sapphire is a 7 slot 1GHz P3 kernel...125, 400, 500, 600, 800, 900, 1000.

Thanks in advance!!

When I updated post #2 with SetCPU 2.0 I decided to leave my Droid running with that exact configuration I showed. Which includes the kernel you are using.

So presently I am running:

Advanced: 32000, 50, 0, 0

Screen Off/: 125/400 (P: 100)
Temp > 46.6C: 125/500 (P: 90)
Charging/Full: 125/800 (P: 80)
Battery < 21%: 125/400 (P: 70)
Battery < 41%: 125/600 (P: 60)

I haven't seen any issues with this configuration. I have had one 28 hour run with 20% of the battery left and a 24 hour run with 30% of the battery left. But I am not the typical Droid user, so your mileage may vary. But I can say for sure that I am very happy with the results so far.

So presently I am running:

Advanced: 32000, 50, 0, 0

I am also revisiting this thread. For reasons that I have already forgotten, I am running the following settings:

Advanced: 65000, 87, 0, 50

For the advanced settings, I am thinking that I may have chosen the median of a range you may have recommended at one time. Does this look like it may be in the ballpark or should I try your settings above? Yes, I do realize no two Droids are the same...

Here are the other settings. I cannot go below 250 with my current kernel.

1250 Max/ 250 Min

Screen off 300/250
Temp > 44C 500/250
Charging/Full 700/250
Battery < 20% 300/250
Battery < 40% 500/250
Battery < 50% 700/250

Try 45000, 65, 0, 70. Froyo seems to handle frequency ramping much better than 2.1 or 2.01 ever could. And I suspect your battery life should be on par or possibly slightly better with what you are used to.

Has anyone done a recent "objective" study of the performance they got by using various kernels?

I have tried to do that twice. The issue is I always find flaws in my testing. I believe at present that is due to too many changing variables because rom and kernel developers are still learning what froyo is capable of.

HOLY CRAP THATS A LOT OF INFO DUDE!!!!! you seem like a genius. LOL excuse my noobness but I had a bit of trouble understanding ALL of it but it seems very informative. kudos for blowing us away off the roof lol nah but seriously though, thats pretty good.

First off I would like to say that what you have done here is invaluable for the community we have here with the Droid. I can say that I, as well as just about anyone else who has opened this thread up cant thank you enough for all the time and hard work that you have put into all of this; everything is set up so it is understandable to almost everyone, from the basic user who just rooted their phone, to the die-hard advanced users.

As for me, I am in a toss up as to what to do with my advanced settings. I have briefly looked through here and saw some things that might help base what I do off of, but I would like to hear it from the man himself.

Pretty much what I am going for is:
FAST, and also will last a full day (at least 18 hours and not be at 0% lol [Phone cant handle anything above a 1Ghz kernel, at least last time I checked it couldn't]). As I am right now I can expect about 16-24 hours of battery life with my current setup.

250-1.0Ghz
Screen off - 250 max 250 min (100) ondemand
Temp > 51.5c 550 max 250 min (95) conservative
Charging USB/Full 1000 max 250 min (81) ondemand
Charging AS/full 800 max 250 min (80) ondemand
Battery < 20% 400 max 250 min (75) conservative
Battery < 31% 550 max 250 min (70) conservative
Battery < 41% 700 max 250 min (65) conservative
And as far as the advanced settings go, well, they have not been changed.
Once again thank you for all the hard work. I'll be checking back here daily to see whats up.

I think I give up

On trying to fight with my SetCPU settings. I have a min/max of 400mhz/1ghz. My issue is that whenever I turn off my droid my settings always change from performance to ondemand. And since I don't really see a big change I'm just going to let it ride.

Unless someone has figured out a way around this I'm going to live with it. My Droid runs fast enough for me, it doesn't get as hot (very noticeable). I think it's just meant to be that way.

I have noticed some anomalies as well with saving settings under Froyo 2.2. Advanced settings don't always restore properly after a reboot.

well for the last week or so I just uninstalled SetCPU and System Panel. I wanted to see perforfance without these tools. NO problems so far and I am getting consistent 17 Mflop scores and a Quadrant average of ~1400

Are you at least running some program to monitor battery temp just in case you run a poorly written piece of code?

If the phone feels hot, I run Tempmonitor.....so far no problems but I am not a heavy gamer or anything like that.....
