passwod confusion

I am so tired of forgetting all my passwords. I’m thinking about using one of those password programs, but I have some questions.
1) Are they safe?
2) I use PCs, Macs, I phone and a droid. Are there any that are compatible with all of these?
3) Do I have to enter the 50-100 ones I have now or can the programs pick them up from my cookies or something?
4) Which ones should I look at? I don’t mind pay some if it allows for a better system

I am going to try Lastpass. I downloaded it to my mac. seems ok. For my Bionic i can download lastpass, but to have it integrated to the browser I need to use dolphin. (I'm using boat now). I added it, but can not download the Lastpass add-on. I get Error-101. I can still log on, but need to press the bottom button, which is a pain. I'd like a system which does it automatically. (at least for forums and other non-vital sites)
