Phone Big oversight

Ok upon further review call stands TOUCHDOWN (Droid rules)!!

Serious I tested it more and I really think the phone flaked once or twice by not going back to call in progress but I tried it now 100 times and all is well and I stand corrected (to a point) its only a couple of button presses to get to call in progress screen and its not a big deal.

You guys are killing me in here! This forum is littered with people bringing up complaints about the phone and you guys simply point them to an app that can help them out or say nothing at all. Leave the guy alone. He was voicing his opinion on something that he doesnt like. That does not mean the phone is "not for him". I can probably search everyone of your threads and i bet somewhere all of you have a complaint about the phone. If all you can offer is "the phone is not for you", dont comment!

That being said, I am sure that once the phone gets rooted, you can manipulate the four buttons to do whatever you want them to do! i just keep the phone button on my home screen.

I think the problem/confusion, at least from my perspective, is the title of the thread. Hardly a BIG OVERSIGHT. More like a minor annoyance. On an otherwise beautifully designed phone.

Have you tried the hold home button method that I mentioned earlier?

Hold the Home Button until the small window with 6 applications appears. These are your most recent applications, and "Phone" should definitely be one of them. You get back to the Phone application, it should take you back to the Call In Progress, or it should be an option within the Phone app.

I've had to get back to a call in progress once, and what I did was drag the Shade down and tap the Call in Progress notification and that returned me right to the Call screen with the normal call options such as Dialpad and End, among the others.

Are you having trouble ending the call? Im sure you know that there is a sensor that reactivates the screen when you move it away from your head. When that screen comes back up you only have to push the END button. If you make a call and the screen does not come back you may have your sensor blocked or could be defective...:motdroidhoriz:

I have not found the phone part of this device very intuitive but I guess I'm getting used to it. I had my screen blank out after a 15 minute call and wouldn't come back until removing the battery. I set the screen to "never" go off and so far it hasn't happened again.

reading thru this thread i am a little confused....from what i understand the OP is surfing the web and talking on the phone while driving....this is not going to end well.....if your droid survives the crash can i have it..?..my wife would like one...

Phone hangs up automatically once the other party does.

This is an example of sometimes people cant handle basic tech. Just go get the free phone.

I keep the Phone app on my home screen. Easy access...

This. People, this isn't a tough concept! When you have to make a call, you press one icon to get to call screen. When you need to hang up, the phone screen comes back up and you hang up. AT WORST, you have to tap the power button to re-activate the screen, then hang up. How fast do you really need to hang up??

Sterdroid, it really seems as if this isn't the phone for you. You have too many (simple) issues with it.

No not that its not for me I want it for me but.... I need it to work. I dont want to press and press and press especially when I am driving. I want to hang up EZ not too much to ask for. Dont get me wrong some of the feature on this phone are OUT of this WORLD!

I went to return and I couldnt!!!

thanks for the support. The Droid is for me!! And I want it perfect. I guess I came to the right place too

Droid "Always Open" Source that it is :)

Yes thanks that helps 100% however I still believe a couple of times it brought me to the dial WITHOUT the end call feature(s).

I bet someone will make the phone part better and use a dedicated button to do so if possible.

No not driving and surfin (well maybe a little) but carefully. No crashes!!!

Hey Sterd, I'm with you on this one. I would love to have a dedicated call and end button too. I bought the Droid for me and the Eris for my wife and I like everything about my Droid over the Eris EXCEPT the fact that to answer a call and end a call, you can do it by FEEL by clicking HARD buttons. When driving, this is VERY convenient versus the "unlock to answer" and having to look at it and follow the curve. It would be MUCH safer and more convenient if there were dedicated buttons, or at the very least, if the HOME button doubled as an answer/hangup button when the phone rang without having to unlock it. 99.9% of the time, there's no problem with the virtual interface but when driving, doing things by touch would be much safer and more convenient. Maybe have the Camera button serve as an answer/end button when the screen is locked. This way, you could very simply and safely answer the phone without looking at it. Heck I ran a red light the other day trying to answer a call from my wife because I couldn't trace the arc just right without looking at it. In the time it took me to have to look at it, trace it and move it up, the light I was approaching turned red and I ran it (with my mother-in-law in the car no less). Thankfully, no cops saw it but it was VERY annoying. Had I just been able to reach down and hit the camera button without taking my eyes off the road, I wouldn't have run it.

Guys, this is a 1.0 phone (even though it's Android 2.0, it's the 1.0 version of the Droid) and the phone it's self has flaws/preference issues that could have been done better. It's still an AWESOME phone and most of my issues could be fixed with software revisions (including this one if someone could make the camera button multifunctional) but some are improvements they could make on the next hardware revision. I love the phone to the point my wife says she's about to do an "intervention" but I'm still not so attached to it to admit it could still be better.

All you guys that are slamming sterdroids as a "newb" or "needs to stay away from it" need to step back and look at his request/problem a little more objectively (and others suggestions/problems/requests too) I've seen some questions on here that are just people not fully exploring their phones, some are overlooking the obvious options but MANY are legitimate suggestions that get slammed just because some of you guys don't want to admit that the Droid MIGHT not be PERFECT. The ONLY way this device will get to perfect is if WE as a community of users HONESTLY evaluate it and then make informed criticisms. If we do, we can pass these criticisms on to the development teams and MAYBE help the platform as a whole improve and thrive. Attacking others because they MIGHT not agree with you or blindly see the phone as perfect helps NOTHING.

Anyway, sterdroids, you're not alone. The most common complaint I've heard on the Droid (and the iPhone for that matter) IS the lack of a physical answer/hang-up button. Hopefully some of these guys insulting fanboyism hasn't turned you off on either the phone or the community. I've found that MOST of the forum is quite friendly and helpful. I'ts a fun time to be using the Droid and hopefully it will only get better.

Thank you! Seriously.

The phone rocks the forum rocks (minus a few knuckleheads that could be cast in the remake of Lord of the Flies or they have taken the word D_R_O_I_D a little too serious) I am having fun with the phone and I am glad I have it and look forward to the update as I am sure it will get better.

No not driving and surfin (well maybe a little) but carefully. No crashes!!!
Kinda like, "Not drinking and driving. Well, maybe a little, but carefully. No crashes." Yet. I hope you aren't driving near my family. Or, anyone else's.

Ok dont touch your phone in the car ever. Dont even turn on GPS schmuck![/QUOTE]

Surfing while driving hardly equates to "not touching your phone in the car ever." Overreact much? What is so important on the web that you have to do it while driving?

It was tongue in cheek. Please i am not a dope I am not surfin and driving. Trying to answer the phone is a different story!

I for one agree about the camera button, I would love to see it made as answer/end for the phone if the camera app is not on.

the reason this is classified as a "Smartphone" is because all of the other features (Internet, apps, etc.) are just as important as the phone feature itself. Thus the phone is not a centralized feature that needs to be immediately accessible.

The four buttons at the bottom are applicable and useful to all applications that want to leverage them, as opposed to adding a phone icon which has a singular purpose and would take away from other icons that would be useful to an app.

I aggree with you, I began looking at this complaint and thought that "How will I answer the calls, etc. Well I just swipe to answer, I do not have to unlock the screen to take an incoming call.

The point you were making i believe is this, and I wanted to sum it up a bit:

This is not a phone with added features, it is a computer system that also makes phone calls... I believe too many people approach what any smartphone can do based upon what they were coming from.

Anyone disagree with that approach?
