Not necessarily. The n7 does not have a removable battery, but looks easy enough to replace if necessary. There is a nice teardown video on the web.

Some products are made to be disposable, however, like most apple stuff. That's one of the reasons I don't buy apple though. I prefer to recycle & re-use, not be forced to throw out.
