Pics & Review of the Otterbox case

Cool. We have two Macs, and one PC, however, we use the Macs 98% of the time. The main reason I keep my PC is because of the Adobe software I purchased a few years ago. Bought it originally to use at home for work. Missed the cross-upgrade offer to get the Mac version of CS3, so I had to keep the PC version, thus the need to keep one PC. Gotta love the Mac though!

My Otterbox case is due to arrive on Wednesday. I just viewed the YouTube video by the guy who did the 9 minute review on it. Nice case! And I got an answer to my original question by watching the review. Apparently the port covers are more like "plugs" and make the ports totally accessible. I think I'm really going to like this case!

Enjoy yours when it arrives tomorrow! You'll have to post what you think of it, once you have it.

Thanks again for your reply!

we have two as well, 13" mbp and 21" iMac... absolutely love them. I waited as long as i could for the iPhone and decided to get the droid. I'm glad that i did. I'm not sure if i would switch if the iPhone came around or not. The Droid has certainly impressed me especially since I've found an app to sync to my mac and get songs off of my itunes library.

hope you are happy with your case :)

cheers

I also enjoy using my Apple computers, and really have nothing against the phone. Freedom of choice is a good thing. :greendroid::iphone::palm::blackberry:

I've been really impressed with the Droid too. I am actually a long time Palm Treo user. We recently decided to switch to Verizon, and I knew I couldn't take my latest Palm Treo, the 755p, with me. I knew too that I needed to switch to another smartphone. My younger brother has a Droid and loves it, so I thought I'd take a look. I also considered the BB Storm 2 and the Palm Pre, but the more I looked at the Droid, the more I liked it. Honestly, I think it was the tons of free software that gave me the initial push that I needed to make my choice....that and the keyboard. As much as I liked the keyboard on my Treo, I did NOT like the keyboard on the Pre, and I absolutely hated the onscreen keyboard of the BB Storm 2. I didn't even consider any of the phones with any sort of Windows operating system, but I'm sure my affinity for Mac influenced that. So hubby and I both chose the Droid, and we both have been VERY happy with our choice.

I'd highly recommend the Droid to anyone. It almost feels like I'm carrying a little netbook of sorts with me everywhere I go.

I checked on the shipment of my Otterbox case, and apparently it won't be here until at least Thursday. Good thing I don't have to return this Seidio case yet, so at least I have something protecting my Droid. Too bad too about the Seidio, as the purple color is very nice looking. I just can't live with the wiggly case front. The Otterbox is looking better all the time. :)

I ended up getting the crappy Body Glove snap on cover initially with my phone just because I wanted some type of protection as soon as I bought it. One of the plastic clips has already started cracking... and the thing's only a couple of weeks old. The one thing I do like is the rubberized surface of the Body Glove... makes holding the phone easier. That's probably the ONLY positive vote I could give it.

So, I'm looking for a good quality case... and this Otterbox looks nice. Not familiar with them until reading this post. I have a full-body invisible shield on my Droid, and I noticed that it made the Body Glove really snug to reattach. If I go for this case, will I be able to use the Otterbox with the Zagg shield? The website said something about a "self-adhering protective film". I've used Zagg stuff for a number of my electronics and have never been disappointed, so I'd hate to give up that protection level.

I really like the idea of the port covers/plugs on the Otterbox case.

I was doing some woodworking in my basement last night and my Droid was down there with me providing me with Shoutcast radio through a pair of speakers I plugged in to it.

Even though my Droid was about 15 feet away from my workbench, it was covered in a fine layer of sawdust after about 2 hours!! :(

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Otterbox case and get one so I don't fill up my Droid with sawdust again! :p

I have the full body shield on mine. I was able to just put the Otterbox on top of it and it fit fine. Now, I don't know what things will look like if you remove it.

The self-adhering shield is basically like the Zagg shield for the screen. I just left it in the packaging.

edit: I hadn't thought about it before, but now I'm curious about what kind of temperatures I'll see on the phone when I'm using the nav and stuff.

How good is the quality of the screen protector that comes with the Otterbox? Both hubby and I have the standard screen protector that you buy from the Verizon store, just because we didn't want to worry about the screen from day 1 after buying our Droids. Of course I hadn't seen the famous key-scratching YouTube video at that time. Even so, I think I'd still want to keep some sort of screen protection on.

Is the Otterbox screen protector included in the box of nice enough quality that I'd want to use it instead of the Verizon one I have now? Mine is of "ok" quality, but only has a couple of bubbles on the side (not in the viewing area), and if I switch to the Otterbox screen protector, I don't want to open myself up to a bubbled mess. What I'd REALLY like is a screen protector like the one I'd purchased for my Palm Treo. It was one of those types that you could stick on and peel off again if you needed to, and it didn't have bubbles...and you could wash it if you needed to. It also didn't show fingerprints. Now that one was NICE!

just got mine today in the mail. overall i like it. I always use cases but i really hate them because they detract from the "sexiness" of the phone and this one is definitely no exception to that. It's decent looking and doesnt add a lot of size to the phone. There definitely isn't much protection to the front of the phone which i was expecting from the review.

as per your question, the screen protector is junk. It doesnt even cover all of the glass part. It covers the "screen" but not all of the glass.

If it does its job i wont regret the purchase but if a sleeker case comes out that offers similar protection for the right price i would consider replacing it. If the ports werent covered by this case i would definitely not like it as much though

It's a stiff piece of plastic with adhesive on one side. I don't know if it's better than the Verizon one, but I wasn't about to take my Zagg off and put it on.

Otterbox is definitely one of the top cases for cell phones. However, one question I have is whether the bulkiness is worth all the protection it offers. I guess the cummuter series isnt all that bad but if they decide to come out with the defender series it will definitely make things A LOT bigger than the phone already is. Let me know what you think. We are thinking about starting Otterboxs in our store~ .

I feel like the phone is more comfortable in my hand. Especially with keyboard out.

As far as bulkiness goes... it doesn't seem to add a whole lot. The true test will be when I go to work tomorrow and have it in my pocket all day.

Let me know how that goes. I;m going to get the cummuter and see how well it fits me then decide whether I should get a defender for my other phone.

I got mine last week and this case is awesome, definitely a must have if you own a Droid. It covers every port from dust, if you are thinking on getting this, dont think anymore just get it. :motdroidhoriz:
