Sounds like you have the camera in macro mode.

I guess I was wrong then. The field I thought looked familiar is north of Baltimore.

Go into you camera APP, and on the right select "SCENES", and you can swipe through the selections. One of those is "MACRO". For most purposes you will just leave it to "AUTO".
