Ok it is very simple.
1. Launch Odin as Administrator (right click the Odin. Exe)
2. Put your phone into Download Mode.
3. Plug it into your PC with the factory USB cable.
4. Let Odin recognize your phone.
5. Select the AP slot and navigate to the NE4 kernel on your PC.
6. Press Start in Odin.

Do not check or unchecked anything in Odin.

Afterwards you root with Towelroot and then put it back into Download Mode and flash back your NG3 kernel using the same steps as above.

I have the phone in download mode, odin as Added, but the tutorial had a PDA slot, the Odin I downloaded from the link has BL, AP, CP, CSC, I've clicked all the boxes however no PDA

got it yay, thanks for the help, towelroot ran, I had to uninstall supersu, reinstall, it would freeze, reboot phone, supersu ran and installed files, rootchecker says congratulation... AWESOME

per your instruction "And... Make sure you have your Software Updates disabled in Settings, About, Software Updates. This way it won't update again until you want to."
I cannot find a box to uncheck, it just asks "check for updates" am I ok, will it not check for updates now without my authorization, I did uncheck report diagnostic info box

Thank you so much for being so patient and walking me through..... SUCCESS!

You are very welcome.

On my phone the updates can be unchecked completely. I wonder if they switched to manual updating only or they make updating mandatory. Either way since you are rooted you could always freeze the Software Updater with Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro.

Here's mine:
