Privacy Blocker/Inspector by Xeudoxus

Just purchased Privacy Blocker, can't wait to try this out.
Just curious to know if there is there going to be a list of apps that we can cross check with?

Thanks for the hard work.

Its in the works, thats what the "fingerprint" button is for in details/menu. so upload your scanned results so we can get a good list going. ;)

Just bought the app, it is running well so far and I'm slowly working my way through my 100+ apps lol. So far Backbreaker football has been the biggest offender I found with 5 issues!

Also I have gotten an FC or two. One cause seems to be if I plug in the USB cable while running privacy blocker it pops up the little do you want to mount USB screen and privacy blocker FC's in the background. Maybe you can reproduce it and fix that small bug.

Thanks for the great app!

Stuck at Downloading..............

Been like this for a Day now. Tried everything cache, reboots, clear data etc...

nothing very frustrating

How are you asking for the download; via the Market on your phone or the Market website. It didn't install for me until I used the Market on my phone.

It looks like each app will have a problem or two. Battery Left had 2 problems which were fixed (make sure you have the "Unknown sources" box checked. When I did Car Locator it did a FC after it uninstalled the old version. When it came back up Car Locator was gone, but PB didn't install the modded version. I had to go to the Market to get it back. No biggie, but this was a purchased app and somehow the Market website wanted me to buy it again. Getting it from the Market on the phone installed it without having to repurchase.

Still, this is a great app and it's amazing what the other apps are asking permissions for.

The Amazon Kindle app is listed as having 5 problems, which are:
Unique SIM ID
Unique IMSI
Phone Number
Unique Device ID
Network Connected

At least a few of these I see as genuine problems.
When I try to 'fix' the first 4 of these, the process fails with an Out of memory error (smali Failed! Result was true, did it create the classes.dex? false).

When I then try to bring up the details of the Kindle app in Privacy Blocker immediately thereafter I get an FC on Privacy Blocker.

Also not working for 'fixing' is Epocrates.
This application lists 5 problems, including (and what I'm trying to fix):
Phone Number
Unique Device ID

When I try to fix these two problems in the app, the process fails with an Out of Memory Error.

Applications that this *does* work for which are likely to be commonly used include:
Dropbox (remove use of unique device ID)
Kids Piano Lite (remove use of unique device ID)
Gray's Anatomy (Anatomy 2011; remove use of unique device ID)
iTriage (remove use of unique device ID)
CMDT - Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment (remove use of unique device ID)
Urbanspoon (remove use of unique device ID)
Tram Hunter (remove use of unique device ID)
Sleep: Sleep like an droid (remove use of unique device ID)
Classic Simon (remove MCC+MNC, Radio Type, Unique Device ID, Current Country (GSM), Network Type Name, Network Connected) - note this may mess with the online scoreboard though (if that's what the unique device id is used for)
MisMisMatch (Unique Device ID - may be used for online scoreboard)

That puts this app under pretty good value in my head. Mind you, this was particularly sealed by seeing all the info the Amazon Kindle app wanted.

It is great that there is now a way to examine in greater detail exactly what apps are doing with the security privileges that are being 'requested'.

A few questions on this app.

Once this is ran and the apps are FIXED, will you still get updates/auto updates from the market for the apps when they come out.

Will this improve performance in any way?

Is there a potential if you fix something on an app that actually needs what you fixed will it break the app? If so is there an easy way to UNDO the fix?

Thanks a bunch in advance.

not sure how I've missed this but it's time to install :)

... after running it. I like what it does... I did not realize it would uninstall the app (wipe all data from it) and then reinstall.

Seems like a ton of work.... and what happens when an app updates? back to square one? Do I have to scan/uninstall/re-install the app all over again?

Are Market links maintained after 'fixing'?

Just some questions....

Correct, but when I enable root features then it will auto backup/restore your data on fixing. (But still have to scan/fix all over again on an update "Impossible to get around it")

You will get the notification, but no auto-updates.

Maybe but it would be very very very small.

Yes, and yes, long press on the app and "revert".
