Private when making calls.... but

Is there an app to block your number for text messages? Not to be used in a harassing or sneaky way. But similar to how you would place a call and your phone number is private, is there an app to block your number when sending text? Maybe not block your number completely, but mask part of the number? I saw an SMS faker app but I don't see how useful that app was to send texts to yourself.
