It's possible the devastation wrought by the Snapdragon 810 fiasco could be worse than imagined. According to the latest industry insider intel, Qualcomm will likely announce massive layoffs during their Q2 financial report. This is due to a combination of negative financial factors caused by the Snapdragon 810 overheating issues.
The first and most obvious factor is that the chipset didn't sell very well (wasn't adopted as widely) by OEMs because of its overheating reputation. The second factor is the massive stock plummet for Qualcomm due to the poorly received chip.
Despite the bad news, Qualcomm is expecting to turn a profit this quarter, and the Snapdragon 820 is just around the corner, which might just put the company back in the hot spot for the market. Of course, this is just a rumor for now, so let's hope things aren't so bad that Qualcomm does actually layoff 4,000 people.
