question about music player

ok so i got a droid 2 and love it so far... but i have a problem with the music player.. it plays music just fine but i cant skip songs or go to next without taking it out of the case and unlocking the screen and then pushing the >> button... on my blackberry i could tap the volume controls to do this.. if i tapped it up or down it changed volume.. if i held it it skipped to next or previous song.. can the droid really not do this? very annoying at the gym to have 2 unlock it everytime... plz help thanks

yes, yes i did... does not work at all....

as far as I know, the only way to change songs without unlocking the phone is using the bulit in lock screen app that shows up when you are playing music and have the phone locked. I dont think theres a way to do it by hardware keys. The volume keys just change the media volume when playing music.
