R2D2 Droid 2 Spotted In Wild

If you compare this shot of the bespoke R2-D2 Droid 2 to the background of Verizon's teaser site (inset), you can see this is almost certainly the genuine article -- and we knew that Verizon intended to intro this thing at the Star Wars-themed Celebration V conference kicking off today, so this is all making a lot of sense. We admit, we were kind of hoping for a graphic that was a little more... you know, R2-D2-shaped, but when it comes to astromech-themed gear, we'll take what we can get.

I really wanted one. Until I saw the pic.

lol Im sure some will like it.. I had to ask some mods here if they even though it was real before I posted it.. IMO that is one of the ugliest phones I have ever seen.. Unless, its like that Seinfeld episode about the girl who looked good only in certain lighting.. lol I sure hope so..

Well to be honest there is only so many ways you can theme a phone for r2d2, and this is pretty much what I expected. Definately for diehard star wars fans. Novelty is cool, but will be just that and be eh in a few weeks/days maybe even hours.

$.02, spend it as you please.

i would get the phone, (since i love white) and take off the battery door, pop on the original blue one, remove the panel which goes over the camera and replace it with the regular version one, and have myself a nice white phone :)

While I don't consider myself a "Fanboy" or "Lucaswhore", it does make me happy to think that I have a little bit of Lucas with me where ever I go. That being said, I'm disapointed with the Special Edition D2. It looks like a case sticker and dare I say a little cheap, I know it's molded plastic but I don't like the style. I was hoping for a nice etched case or even an anodized case. While I support the effort I'm not digging it. I'll stick with the DX for now. It would be very cool to see a C3PO one though he's a Droid to.

There's nothing wrong with being a Lucas or Star Wars fan at all .. I think how you described it is best, it looks cheap, and like someone else commented, it looks like a remote control r2d2 robot i had when I was like 12..

Gonna wait for "Space Balls: The Cell Phone" myself..<g>

Lucas fanboys are one level down from apple's ... They'll buy it.
Not quite as I'm sure most Lucas fanboys are using the Droid OS in what ever model they choose. I know I enjoy having that connection with Lucas and I don't consider myself a Fanboy. The ones that do consider themselves Fanboys I'm sure got all squishy when the Droid was released. At least were smart enought o get a phone that works. I think that alone bumps us up a few pegs.dancedroid
