The camera is just a device to capture the image. The software/firmware controls the pre-image processing, focusing, post capture image processing, storage, etc.

Lense > Camera > Firmware

Regardless of the firmware you can only get so much better without improving your lense.

It is a phone with a camera. And standards and expectations for smartphone camera quality in this price range have already been established. They are set much higher than this phone is delivering. The camera in this phone needs lots of work to meet what the phone with a camera buying public expect.

Agreed. If you remember, the OG Droid camera wasn't worth a damn when it launched and got much better as software was tweaked. We should expect the same here.
