RAZR Maxx screen is a bummer....

To the OP: the LG Spectrum has the nicest display in the store. The device is the red headed step child of the bunch, but it seems to be proving itself just fine over time.

I like the display on the RAZR. I actually went through 3 Galaxy Nexus's and each one had horrible displays (banding, dead pixels, splotches, uneven color temps). Before that I had a Droid 3 and the original Droid. This display is amazing, even with it's lower resolution.

That's not bad displays...that's bad devices. The nexus display blows the razr one away.

I've had a lot of phones. OG Droid, D2, DX, DX2, Bionic and RAZR. I liked the Droid X LCD display too. Outdoor was awful though. DX2 and Bionic use that RGBW display. Its the BEST outdoors. The RAZR is nice but not as good outdoors but better than the DX or D2 or OG DROID. The colors look washed out and pixelated as well as colors are not accurate on the DX2 or Bionic especially Orange/Yellow. RAZR however lacks in outdoor visibility but makes up for in color depth and lack of washout. The screen isn't as white as the LCD of the DX or OG Droid or even the Bionic. But colors are reproduced better. DX2 and Bionic also suffer from ghosting when scrolling text where the LCDs of the RAZR, OG Droid and DX don't have issues with. The SAMOLED display of the Galaxy Nexus and the RAZR have issues with splotches too. So every display has pros and cons. So nothing is perfect. Once you move from 1 display type to another you will have a getting used to stage. But you will adjust.

I'm sure it's not unique to my phone, Maybe I'm just being very picky about this... I just can't make myself like it. I find it very subpar to my DX display. The DX display is very bright and vibrant, all websites, pictures, icons, etc... are very sharp. This RAZR display just doesn't compare for me.

The droid X and DX2 do have brighter whites but the colors are washed out. The Droid Razr and Razr Maxx colors are definitely an improvement. You are being way too critical of the screen quality IMO.

When I got my MAXX I noticed it had a slight greenish/bluish tinge. Especially at odd angles.. It did bother me for a little while, but now after using it for a month, I have no issues. Well.... Except one. Sometimes it is a little too bright. I wish I could turn the brightness down lower than the current minimum. It hurts my eyes in the normal low light conditions I am in for most of my days.

I did compare the screen side by side to my wife's htc rhyme, and and her screen is "whiter" but after using both for a while, I like the razr's screen quite a bit better especially outside.

I would compare the display on the Maxx to a plasma TV. Its not super bright but it displays colors very well, especially blacks. Its not as bright and the colors don't pop quite as much as my previous phones like the S2 but none of that matters when you remember the awesome battery life and speed of the phone

There are several apps that give you the reduced brightness you're looking for. Screen Filter, Filter Your Screen, and BackLightFilter are just a few. Some are manually operated, and at least one lets you set up brightnesses for particular situations.

I'm gonna go try some of these out. Just for kicks. Thanx FoxKat.

Buying a RAZR MAXX for screen quality is like...well...buying a Nexus for its battery life:

I must say that I love the Gnex screen. It is so great, but to make it even better get the Franco kernel and updater app. Gives you ultimate control. Just amazing color and 300+ ppi

You can also try Settings...Display...Brightness...Display Power Saver - this dims bright screens to save power.

I already have that done. I just like messing with my screen, but Thanx for the heads up!! :)

The apps are pretty cool. I recommend them for night time usage. I was writing an email in bed this morning and with the use of apps like these, my wife didn't get woke up by the bright light. Thank god, cause I'm setting up a suprise visit from her grand parents

I must say that after I have had the Maxx for over a week my eyes have adjusted to it and I'm liking it a lot better :) I did check out a GNex... just messed with it for 5 minutes give or take... and screens looked basically the same, keep in mind I didn't stare at it for a hour and compare photo after photo. I did compare brightness levels and adjusted them on the Gnex and they matched the Maxx side by side on each website I went to. I didn't really care for the look and feel of the GNex but everyone has their own opinion.
