Yes they do work have used one for my ex for about a year and yes radio shack is where I found mine. Also laws a different everywhere, here in VA as long as one person(you) involved in a conversation knows it is being taped then it is ok. Secondly illegal is relative, as long as you are not putting a recorder down and walking away to capture a conversation, first it would have to be known that you were doing it and then you would have to be charged with it, I dont see that happening... Bottom line make sure you are involved in what is being taped and you will be fine.
