RELEASE... Black Market 2.3.4....

Try my method of flashing the ROM over the top, then installing your Theme, then the Market, ALL WITHOUT OPENING THE MARKET until you are complete. Just verify that it is in the app drawer between installs.

Ill give it a shot when my wife goes to sleep so she's not rolling her eyes at me. Also so I get it right let ne run through the steps.
Flash a fresh rom over what I have with no wiping, check market but don't open. Flash theme check for market but don't open. Flash the new market.

No go. App was in the drawer the whole time. When I flashed the new market and rebooted the market is gone again.
Im gonna try to flash the 2.2.6 market and see what happens since nothing has been synced yet.

Haha. No problem. If I flash older market versions the market functions until I attempt to download something.

now that's weird. I guess install the rom over the top, theme, and stick with that :/ Other choice is to start from scratch, depending on how bad you want the new market.

What rom is everyone running that is having some success? Unless I missed something some where I've had no luck on my droid x running rubix.

I've got Liberty on my D2 (and it installed no problem last night), and Liberty on one of my bud's X's, and a couple users of my theme having success installing the Market over mine.

I had no problem gettting it to work on liberty. Just rubix. Not a big deal. Blacked out gmail worked fine. Who knows ill shoot a message to drod and snead see if they have any recommendations.

def sounds like an issue with Rubix then. Glad you got it up and running. Make sure to check out the Liberty Toolbox, lotsa goodies in there.

Rubix runs smoother for me than liberty. I've got a couple of liberty backups if I want to go back but for the time being ill tinker with rubix.
What's your first name?

sk8, added a couple steps below about freezing the market updater and uninstalling updates to my guide a page or two back. Also copied it to below so you wouldn't have to dig around. Played with it a bit more tonight, created more problems so I could fix them. New stuff is in bold below, normal on the actual post. -note bold stuff is not bold in the App, see website for boldness.
After installing the theme, back to 2.3.3, my themed version. Installing BM 2.3.4 now...

BAM! Black Market is installed and fully operational. So here now is the procedure if you have problems with the Market disappearing after install. The reason the market causes so many headaches is because it autoinstalls the updates when you open the market, and you don't know until its too late. Stupid finicky program!

-Go to settings/apps/manage/all/market and uninstall updates, even if it fails you're good, since it kills the market anyway.
-Boot into recovery and Install your ROM "over the top" (meaning without wiping) [If you are running PE5, install the update to 5.0.2 as well)
-Boot and verify Market is in the app drawer, but DON'T OPEN IT. If its there, proceed, if not, start rebuilding from scratch or restore to a point where you have a working Market.
-Go into Titanium Backup and Freeze "Market Updater". This will (read: should) keep the market from auto-updating to new versions and prevent problems, but will not prevent you from updating apps. I tested this today.
-Go into settings/apps/manage/all/Market. If you have the option to uninstall updates, do so now. I did it at this point and was reverted back successfully to 2.3.2, which opened and worked fine, and didn't auto-update thanks to the TiBu fix above.

-Boot into recovery and install your theme (if you are using one) [If not installing a theme, proceed to the next step]
-Boot phone and verify the themed version of your market is there. If it is, proceed.
-Boot into recovery and install Black Market or your other themed Market 2.3.4.
-Boot. If Black Market (or other themed Market) is there, then you're all good.

If you found this helpful in getting your Market back, please consider clicking the button in my sig. Wifey was nagging me to go to sleep while I was working on this
