[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.0 Gingerbread - 1-11-2013

Hello Chevycam94,

I love the clean and neat nature of your ROM's. I have used your ROM in my "OG Droid 1" Days, and now on the Droid 3.
I would like to mention that I having trouble with the email icon for my corporate sync on this ROM. The issue is that the icon keeps disappearing.

First time around, I followed the instructions on this thread to a T. Thinking it was a fluke in the initial setup of the ROM, My steps to reinstall the ROM on the phone were:

1. Boot into CWM Recovery, Factory Reset/Wipe Device - Both data and cache
2. Reboot the phone and go to AP Fastboot - Using RSDLite 5.5, I installed the SBF 5.6.890
3. Restarted the phone, and Rooted the phone using Pete's Motorola Root Tools
4. Installed the purchased version of CWM Recovery Boot Strap for Droid 3
5. Copied the SD3_3000.zip to the internal SD Card
6. Clicked the BootStrap Recovery and then the Reboot Recovery in CWM Bootstrap Droid 3
7. Again, Factory wiped settings to be safe and then installed the zip from the internal SD card
8. Started up the phone, setup my email accounts, the email icon was there... for about 20 minutes and disappeared...

I am going to install the Universal Inbox, which I'm not very fond of; however, it's better than dealing with the bloatware from Verizon.
Not sure if this makes a difference, however, the hosted exchange server for our company email requires certain permissions to be allowed.
I am not sure if that is the root cause, however, I thought I would bring it up so we can see about getting this resolved in the next release?

*Update*
The Universal Inbox did not fix the issue. I installed the zip through the recovery, however, when I booted the phone, there is no new icons :)

I will use a third party email apk for now.

Anyway, Thanks for all your help and I plan on donating a few bucks to help the cause!
Your ROM's are always great.

Many Thanks,
David D.

What Launcher are you using?
I had the same issue with stuff dissapearing while using the Go Launcher.
If using Go Launcher, make sure its updated. There was a recent update that fixed it for me.
Hope it helps...

Did you install the email app as described in this post? http://www.droidforums.net/forum/st...dd-stock-email-support-steel-droid-2-0-a.html

First thanks for all your hard work on this great ROM !

Hi I have a few noob questions could someone give a description of what the "suggestion and rules checker" and "updaters" addon's are and what they do?

If you install one of these zips can they be uninstalled? and if so how?

Thx

My home button stopped responding yesterday. It still vibrates when I hit it but it doesn't do anything. Also my slide to lock unlock is gone and lastly when I press and hold the power button it does not give me all the options. It only gives me sleep and power off now. This all happened randomly last night. I've been running SD3.0 since it released and have never had a problem. I did not change any settings. I was using it as I normally would and this happened. I reflashed this morning and it worked for about an hour and then did the same thing. Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this.

Not the launcher

I thought it might be the launcher because I have seen icons disappear and/or no longer work from my home screen, in the past.
However, this is not the case... I have cleared the phone out and tried a third time and still the same results.

The icon disappears from the App Drawer - even though on the third install of Steel Droid 3 I did not add any launchers.
It has to do something with security settings from my exchange server. However, the third party email apps work fine.

Not sure what the difference between Blur_Email and BlurEmail is, however like Lizx3 asked me in a post on page 83 of this thread, I have downloaded, changed the permissions, copied the BlurEmail.apk to /system/app and my issue is resolved.

If possible, it may save some headaches in the future to bundle the ROM with BlurEmail.apk instead of Blur_Email.apk! :)

Many Thanks for all your hard work on building the ROM and many thanks to Lizx3 for suggesting that I install BlurEmail.apk.
I was using Enhanced Email - but it seems to be a huge battery drain - Although, it does have email search ability which is pretty sweet.

Anyway, Thanks again!
David D.

Ive recently been having a problem of not being able to purchase apps from the market?

I get "An error occured. Please try again"

However, I can download free apps

I believe its a problem with the market chevy included with the rom, although recently a market update was rolled out. Have you tried going into setting/applications/app management/ and clearing the data for the market?

Worst comes to worst, try flashing bowers blacked out market and see if that fixes your issue. You'll have to uninstall/clear updates for market though

^^^well unfortunatly i bootlooped yesterday flashing themes on top of liberty rom, SBF'd then back to SD and no problems with market...

Probably clearing data would help in this case now that i think about it, but never got the chance to try...

Thanks!

Well thats definitely one way to get it fixed. lol

Hi all, just rooted and flash Steel Droid 3.0 successfully (1st attempt!) I feel much cleaner now :)
My question is, what do I do now? Other than installing a theme, what do most people do with a new rom?
Sorry if the question is a little weird,, kind of a noob. Thx!

Well I personally, am on steel droid no theme, I really like the effects chevy gave it and didn't want to change, the only root change I did was change my boot animation to the Razr animation. I use GoLauncher EX for "theming"

I was thinking about using Golauncher, since I had that with the stock gingerbread, but I read in different places that since it just runs on top of the system it might slow down the phone a little. Did you notice any slowdown after installing Golauncher?

I have the same issue with Market and I just wiped data from app management. It's still a problem.

I'll try flashing Blacked Out next
