renaming files to 'update.zip'

after renaming a file to 'update.zip' and then loading to your SD card do you then delete the file so that 'update.zip' is available for the next thing you want to load on the card? thanks

You could make a file on your SD called updates and after you run an update.zip rename that .zip file whatever it was, for example baseband.zip and then put it in the updates folder you made, in case you need that .zip in the future and your SD stays clear for the next update.zip file

So, in other words, there can't be more than one update.zip file on the root SD card at any one time, correct? I am new to rooting and ROMs and would like that clarified.

Also, no matter what a ROM is called, you always rename it to update.zip, right? If I am using SPRecovery then for example if I want to install a kernel or ROM or whatever, I rename it to update.zip and then flash it.

Thanks.
