Rogue Droid - HUGE ISSUE!!!!

Wow, this thread has really put my mind at ease. I had a very similar experience last night (actually 4AM this morning) where I was woken up by a weather bug forecast video. I looked at the phone this morning, the browser history was all full of facebook browsing, google searches of complete gibberish, but what made me the most scared was it went onto the paypal site.

The good news is that there was no major compromise of data/paypal.... I DID decide to get a cheapo charger cable from Amazon, so thanks to the forum members for calming down my cardiac arrest!

Here's my question: do you think the problem is either:

1) voltage issues making the phone go wacky completely at random
2) somehow the charger device allows another user to maliciously gain control of the phone?

Once I saw the paypal in my browsing history, I got nervous as all get-out and changed all of my passwords.

Rest assured, billstickers, its just the screen going haywire. Imagine it like if you left your computer on and your cat started jumping on the keyboard all night. Eventually he'd manage to vkisit some kitty porn sites just by random keypress ;)

so i am still looking for a cable thats 10 foot that someone knows works if you cant give a link give me the name i can search on amazon thanks my friends love the droid

I am using the "official" Multimedia Dock for Droid, and this happened to me this morning, actually. I found it pretty disturbing, because when I removed the Droid from the dock, I was surprised to see the Google search results screen up, with the results for a search on "boobs." I kid you not. I am a mom of only young kids who weren't awake yet, and my husband is deployed. No one in my house made this search. I hit the back button, and this search does not appear in my search history, which I thought was weird.

Since then, I've been trying to set my Google search to strict safety level, but it keeps hanging. Very, very strange. And again--an official OEM multimedia dock.

Wow, pretty bizarre stuff in this thread. You're not alone!

This morning, I had my Droid plugged into an EBay aftermarket-cheapo charger from Eforcity in CA. Charger made in China (no manufacturer name, CE stamp, model TGR-025). I missed a call which went to voicemail. When I returned 15 minutes later my phone display was lit and was dialing *86 on its own! I ended the call, and the phone immediately dialed voicemail on its own. I ended this call too, and the phone began flipping through my desktop screens. WTF???

Does anyone recall the stories about China made picture-frame viewers from a few years back? Apparently, there was code included by some that hacked into your PC. Me thinks me smells a rat!

One thing for sure, I am not going use either the AC or car chargers I bought on EBay until I see this issue resolved.

Well I have a similar issue...

I had my droid in the holster while walking down the street when It just started playing music off the SD card. It only happened the one time but it was definitely weird.

It sounds to me like the sequel to the 90's movie "Toys". Perhaps they'll name it "Droids".

This happened to me! I came home one day when I had left laptop on and cover raised, to find a completely different wallpaper on my screen. It was picture that I had in my pics folder, but had never even considered using it for wallpaper. How her little cat feet pressed so many correct keys amazes me!

Although I can't explain what is happening with the official nightstand dock, I can explain with the chargers. Basically, if you are not giving the phone enough power, it acts up and does weird things as described above. When buying a charger, or charging it with any USB device, you must make sure it is giving out as much as the original charger that came with the phone. That is 850mA - if you go any lower than this (learned from experimentation) it will go nuts. If you buy something a little more powerful than this that is okay since the droid will only accept a certain currency of power at a time. Hope this helps!

Erich, the cheap EBay charger I bought doesn't indicate the power. It only shows I/O voltage. I would have thought power a required listing for the CE stamp, but maybe like many things from China they just used (borrowed, ie stole) the stamp? And of course there is no manufacturer name listed on the charger.

It is NOT something about the amount of electric current........actually, if you use a USB data cable to charge your DROID through USB port of your computer (the electric current is only 500mA) . It works well without weird thing..........It is NOTHING about aftermarket or original charger .............. A lot of original OEM charger users are having the same problem right now...........The real matter is about static electricity ..........Your phone is an electronics device, abundant static electricity will cause problem as what you think to be weird thing............

I know that a lot of people here are laughing at the so-called aftermarket product and ebay product.......but it is NOT the matter of aftermarket product in this case

Well, all I can say is that the charger that DID DO IT is not the charger that came with it. I have had no issues charging on USB or with the factory wall charger. I am not saying that other chargers wont have problems and I dont know if it is some sort of paranormal activity...... ...... ..... but that charger did it, I havent had issues since I stopped using it

It is a matter of the DROID not getting proper voltage draw. As stated before... the DROID draws 850ma, any less and you'll get some 'weird' results.
