Rogue Droid - HUGE ISSUE!!!!

I just wanted to add that I too purchased a cheap ebay charger. When I plug the Droid in to charge it seems to charge but if I want to try and use the droid, ie. browse web, text, etc... my touches don't really "register" and the screen goes haywire doing what it pleases. It has never just done it on its own. If I unplug the charger and attach the OEM charger, BOOM - everything fine. I am not going to use this charger anymore.

The charger says "Cellet" on it and has the following specs:
Input: 100V-240V 47-63 Hz 0.2 A
Output: 4.5 - 9.5 V Max 0.8 A

Confirmed

I almost bought a cheap USB wall adapter and cable from "Discount Electronics" in the mall in Austin. $5 each.

I suggested we try it first, before I bought it.

Screen went crazy , and it tried to dial a 911 call.

Stupid me. Droid almost got loose.

Had to reset it after unplugging. Now working fine. Hope it didn't blow anything. :((

I'm sure you didn't 'blow' anything. The problem with the aftermarket chargers is they don't output enough power. So it's not delivering enough mA to charge the phone, it's certainly not going to 'blow' anything on your phone.

I bought a bunch after market cables and charger and they all sucked and made my phone behave in a bizarre manner. Best stick with the cables/charger that came with the phone.

Sounds like a personal guarantee to me. Thanks. I will file that.

I say we get the phone in a room setup the camera again make a movie and sell it we can call it Paranormal Activity the Sequel.....

The only time I use a wall charger is overnight in the bedroom; I use the charger it came with for that. I got 2 more (third party) USB-to-micro-USB cables which I use to plug into my desktop PC in my office, and my laptop at work; I also have an iGo charger from Radio Shack with a micro USB tip. (Love the interchangeable tips on that thing, it's so much cheaper than buying a new separate car charger for every new toy I buy.) Computer USB charging and the iGo both work flawlessly.

OEM chargers not meant for droid?

Wow, impressive thread.

I've been having both hardware and software issues w/my :motdroidvert:, but I can't rule them out via charger issues, unfortunately.

A question though, I have my old wall charger (OEM) from my Motorola Razr2 that I use nightly. (Longer cord). Has ANYONE had issues using car/wall chargers that are OEM but from other micro-usb devices? Just checking, as I have yet to use the car charger - which came from a VZW store.

Thanks!

Yeah, Motorola - Ecomoto AC Charger at fault.

I had exact same problem yesterday. The offending charger logo shows Motorola and a label affixed to cord has ECOMOTO named. Be warned.

Try putting 220 into your 110 50" flat panel and see what happens. USB spec is 4.75V (4.4 on powered hub) to 5.25V. They should stay in that range up to 500mA min. I have had Verizon labeled car chargers sold for Motos in company stores that inched past 9V. Back they went. Never took one apart but suspected they were not really regulated, just relied on a certain specific load to drop the voltage. Not good on any other device.

I have a similar experience with my storm charger and tried to warn others here, but no one believed me and was shot down.

i had the same problem with a charger, if you use one of those adapters to go from car charger to wall charger it does the same, i had to lock it to stop it and let it charge then unplug it to use it

That is just too funny....I was electrified by my Droid the other night (no kidding). It was plugged in to the charger and I noticed the phone was trying to call someone. I picked it up and the outer metal rim had a charge to it and it kind of buzzed me. the screen went black and I could hear someone on the other end. I was unable to cut the phone off or get the screen back on for a few minutes. Each time I touched it the Droid quickly let me know who was boss that night!!!

I was using my charger that came with my Envy phone at the suggestion of the Verizon Guy. Had the Droid about 10 days and it is quite an adventure.
