[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Thanks guys, I am such a noob. Yeah I just had to use rsdlite. I did it the nubby way and installed using the one click root and flashed clockwork using rom manager. Now i am back to normal... Thanks guys.

One click roots are not good. You're almost guaranteed to have problems later on

rerooted after update

Thanks so much. i have been searching. i did the 2.2.1 update and lost root and this worked to get it back. i don't feel some dumb after reading all the posts of everyone that did the same.
Thanks again.

Just out of curiosity, are you still on bootloader 2C 6C? If not you'll need to fix clockwork in memory or it'll be replaced every boot.
Just as a FYI furman, we've had to make sure the custom recovery didn't get replaced with the stock one via the same method MC1 uses here since the very beginning, i.e. bootloader 2C6C. Command:
Code:
[FONT=Comic Sans MS]mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p.old[/FONT]

Help with FRG83D on Root - Android Forums

To apply the update and keep root, simply download update.zip, then unzip and edit \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script with the changes listed. You'll have to use Notepad++ on Windows systems. Re-zip then file, then apply from custom recovery.

I can verify this works! I updated to FRG83D, and still have root!

Sorry if this was answered earlier but I don't really want to scroll through all 121 pages. I noticed that people got an OTA update when they were rooted and when they installed it, it took away their root? Does this happen with every OTA update, or was it just 2.2.1?

Yes. The number of threads on the subject are numerous and many people are surprised every time it happens, so don't feel at all bad that you weren't in the know.

Either flash a stock rooted ROM and run with it, updating as needed, keep re-rooting using this method as it's the only one that really has any chance of surviving every update without modifications made to the method (the one-click methods and other exploids are often closed off with every update) or bite the bullet and install a custom ROM which will make 95% of the people with a phone happier than stock. :)

Don't worry, we were all newbies at some point. Glad you're back up and running!! dancedroid

And this method was posted in post number 1143 in this thread as well.

Thanks MotoCache1! I was able to follow the directions no problem. Now I see the "Superuser v2.3.2.3." Should I be able to see busybox or does it run underneath?
Again THANKS!

Busybox is included but not seen. If you want to update to the latest version you can search busybox on the market

The updated keeps coming back, after every 3-4 days. What do I do to stop it from prompting me to update? Thanks Guys!!!

Flash a ROM or the OTA update and use this method to re-root.

Every time I try to install the update, it gets blocked. I am a novice to this, please help!!
I just did help. I offered two viable solutions for you. :) Help me to help you. The more information you can give me, the better. Which one do you want? Keep in mind that flashing a stock, rooted ROM may also require that you wipe your phone; the contents of the SD card will remain and your contacts are backed up with Google in the privacy settings (go check them now).

If you're going to install the update you have to do it manually -- otherwise SPRecovery will block it. This is what it's designed to to. If you followed this guide to root you're familiar with the process of manually installing an update.zip file via recovery, so that shouldn't be an issue once you have the file. If by help you mean links to manually download the 83D file, I can do that easily enough and will be happy to do so. If you wish to flash a ROM, well, that's beyond the scope of this thread but it's performed in the exact same manner and I will PM you links to a couple of ROMs you can try. Just let me know what you need so I can help. :)
