Root on Incredible 2

Did you do a nandroid backup? If you did, then load your backup and then do what darinr80 is saying. Reflash, but wipe data and cache before you reload the rom.

Stelv, thank you! I wiped my data and cache yesterday and have both the NY Times bookmark and a working compass!

The backup you did in recovery is what you want. You want to restore the one you did right after you did the S-OFF. Hopefully Clockwork Recovery was installed with it. That is one backup you want to keep safe.

uh oh!!!

i didnt do a back up then!
i know...stupid of me...but then again....im not that echy...i just love the technology!
what do i do?!

Let me know if you have done any of the following:

-Installed Clockwork Recovery
-Booted into CWR and made a backup
-Tried installing a new Rom (Your file that you downloaded may be corrupt. Download another Rom file like CM7 or Gingersense again)

Installing Custom Roms:
-Verify that zip file for the Rom is not corrupt and downloaded in its entirety
-Boot into Recovery and make a backup
-Boot into Recovery wipe data and cache
-Install zip from sdcard, find file (keep file zipped, do not unzip)
-Reboot system normally after
*Note when installing kernels and themes no wipe is needed. Install them over Rom.

*Please correct me if anything is different on the inc2. I am very familiar with root and roms but have not messed with root and roms on Inc2 yet.

Do everything through the clockwork recovery menu. If you have a rom file to install on your sdcard and can manually boot into recovery you will be all good. Nandroid is just a section of your device that you cannot access if unrooted, it's not an app.

Here is a link to the Rom section on this site.Droid Incredible 2 Roms - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum
Each one has a post and a description. These other guys will have to tell you the one that works the best since I am not running roms at the moment. Once you get the hang of it you can try them all if you want. Just make sure you have at least one back up or rom zip on your sdcard at all times.

1-Verify that zip file for the Rom is not corrupt and downloaded in its entirety
2-Boot into Recovery and make a backup
After the backup is made successfully go to main recovery menu, i am not sure what button it is on inc2 to go back to main menu.

3-When back in main Recovery menu again wipe data
4-Main recovery menu again then wipe cache
5-Main recovery menu again then Install zip from sdcard, find file, install
6-Main menu>Reboot system normally
7-Let device boot and sit for 5-10mins while new rom is loading components. If it takes longer than 15mins something may be wrong.

Side note.... the only things that should be wiped in recovery are usually data and cache, maybe dalvick cache. Never do anything like format boot or mess with the other menu's unless specifically told so or one knows what they are doing within another menu. It is ok to make backups through recovery too.

do i have to lose all my data & programs?
i will if have to to fix all this just was hoping not!
