Root on the newest 2.2.1 update

i am currently on a sony vaio notebook with windows 7 professional 32 bit

Okay, that opens things up a bit. Would you be willing to use that to root your phone AND are you able to access an account with administrator access?

yes i am willing to use the comp to root the phone and yes i am the only user on the comp as the administrator

There are two methods I can talk you through, then. One will install a custom recovery and the other will simply provide root access. The one I will direct you to first will depend on what you are interested in rooting your device to achieve.

im at step 5 but i have rsdlite on my desktop and it wont give me the option to run as admin

Is it asking for administrator access or do you have admin access on the account already?

when i right click it on my desktop it doesnt give me the option to run as adminstrator but i am the admin on this comp

If you're logged in as admin then all programs run as admin. Just proceed. Make sure RSD Lite recognizes the phone when you have it in the bootloader.

how do i get rsdlite to recognize the phone to install it in the bootloader
thats the part so far i dont understand

Power the phone down, slide out the keyboard, press and hold up on the d-pad, then power the phone back up. As long as you don't release the d-pad then you'll boot into the bootloader. Now connect the phone via the USB cable to the laptop. You may have to install some software at this point, but as long as you have the Motorola drivers you shouldn't have a problem. RSD Lite should now say there's something attached to the computer. That will be your phone.

i just tried it and my comp told me that it couldnt install device for the lack of a driver
