I think I know your problem. Mac seems to extract .zip's automatically. Make sure it isn't extracting it, and just rename it.

Should I delete the one that is already there and do I have to do the RSD lite again?

Delete the one you have, redownload and make sure it doesn't extract it. And no you don't have to use RSD Lite again, as long as you already have SPRecovery.

I do not know. Never had to use ESE81 but my sense is you only add one update.zip file are a time

I followed all your instructions and the video (Guide to rooting 2.1 droid on a Motorola droid). Everything was the same except nothing happened when pressing allow update.zip installation. (I think that part was right) Then I hit /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)

Then it says
Install from sdcard
Finding update package
Verifying update package
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted

I added the update.zip by dropping into sdcard from the mac

Yes I wiped data and cache
Help me LOL

Two things to make sure of...make sure the update.zip file is on the root of your SDCard, and if it is, then make sure it's named update.zip and not update.zip.zip...

lastly you can try to redownload the file
