rooted..now what...noob..tethering?

Alright i have been on this site all night and have finally managed to find a way to get my droid 2 that is running 2.3.3 rooted. i tried the z4root, gingerbreak and a few others that were a no go. did the motorola one click and it worked. so now i am rooted and my main purpose was to be able to allow my children to tether their new tablets. i have been through pages and pages of tethering questions and still dont know what is up. i downloaded barnacle but doesnt seem to be working or i am doing something wrong. from what i read verizon has but a block up to make these not work? is this so? how do i get around it? also i have another droid 2 that is still 2.2 and also from what i read is it should work on it as long as it does not update. so what do i do? if i go with the 2.2 phone how do i keep it from updating automatically? Any help would be appreciated. this site has been a real help to me.

I used this and it worked like a charm. That's for gingerbread. If you're running 2.2, just don't download the update, but I recommend running the wugpacked gb tether patch, it works fantastic, especially if you're unthrottled.
