Rooting a phone

I just tried it again and it told me: "Checking..[PG05IMG.zip]" (it was like that for 20 minutes) and that's all it says but that's after I see the blue scanning bar in the top right hand corner

That's odd if its unlocked it should let you flash it. You might contact HTC and complain, or try revolutionary and see if their method will unlock it and give you s-off, theirs installs a new bootloader so it should let you flash recovery, but that method won't give root since the newest update, you'll have to install a rooted rom after you get recovery on it. In short on revolutionary, it should unlock and install recovery, but root will fail. Install a rooted rom and it should be rooted.

I have tried revolutionary but it still failed. I try and find a way to contact HTC because if I'm haveing this much trouble I would advise people not to use the HTCdev tool just yet

I'm very nervous about bricking my phone because I am new to this. Listening to what you guys are talking about here I guess I'll just wait and see if an easier method surfaces. I guess this new firmware update makes this a pain.

Where did revolutionary fail at? If it succeeded in flashing their custom bootloader you may have s-off.

Check your bootloader, you should be able to get into recovery and flash a rooted rom.

I just tried that and still no luck. It's frustrating on how locked down HTC made this phone to be. Every thing is locked it some way or another.

Sorry, maybe somebody will be able to help you, I was fortunate enough to get rooted pre-gingerbread.

That stinks. I wish I would have rooted before this latest firmware like I was originally intending. :-(

Something you might check into is pushing recovery by adb on your computer. I don't know exactly how to do it, but you might research it.
