Rooting droid 2.2 froyo

Download the ROM, name it update. If you get a warning about changing the file extension rename it update.zip. Put it on the root of your SD card, reboot the phone into recovery, make a simple nandroid backup, wipe your system and data caches 2-3x each, install the update, reboot the phone. Once you've rebooted the phone make sure it'll boot to the home screen.

Now, on your computer, download the Google apps, rename the file the same as you did the ROM, put it on the SD card and make sure it replaces the ROM file. Now reboot into recovery, make a simple nandroid backup, install the app pack, and then reboot. If it boots to the home screen you should be good to go.

If at any time you get a boot loop, pull the battery and try to reinstall the file you just tried to install from within recovery. If you still can't get the phone to boot, do a simple nandroid restore. If you need to go back to stock, do an advanced, check all the boxes, and select the first backup you made.

I'm happy to help. When I did mine it was on $600 piece of equipment I couldn't afford to damage. Still can't. No insurance and no job to pay for it if I break it. :)

when i install update zip it say finding update package
opening update package
verifying
then E cant open /sdcard/zip
no such file or directory installation aborted

A mirror is another hosting site. Often the mirrors are faster because the main server is getting walloped.

Okay, is the file on the root of the SD card and is it named update.zip and not update or update.zip.zip or update .zip, etc.?

i wiped data and cache but as soon as i click install update it says no directiory found or update found could it be the file or no

Okay. At this point I'm going to recommend you go to the Rescue Squad and post a thread there, then tell them what you've tried and where you're at. Try to be as informative and concise as possible.

Good luck!
