Rooting droid

So couple days ago I bought the Motorola Droid and I have some questions.

What does rooting the droid allow you to do? or what does rooting mean.

Sorry but once again read the stickies, they tell you EVERYTHING =)....rooting allows for WiFi tether, theming, and overclocking of the processor.
