Roundup of Gingerbread update issues (with solutions where available)

***MAJOR UPDATE***

When I enabled b/g data this morning to allow the Pro to sync, 3G turned blue as usual, but the up/down arrows didn't light solidly as before when it always indicated the data churn had started up again.

I decided to leave it enabled. For some reason, the churn has stopped. Even though I did a soft reset - and later a battery-pull reset - the churn has not returned. The com.Motorola.service.main is also no longer locked.

I've been off the charger for 7 hours and still have 20% charge left. Device temperature has stayed between 80 - 95 degrees all day.

Here's the kicker; I didn't DO anything. The problem stopped on its own!

I wonder if Vz or Moto were doing anything on the back-end after I opened my trouble-ticket? No idea, but even if I get 8 hours out of my battery, I can live with it.

Now, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the problem doesn't come back!

(Sorry for posting in two places, but I wanted to make sure everyone with the battery-drain issue sees this)

The same happened to me. Must have been a back-end issue.

I'm also having a lot of these same issues on my Droid Pro after updating to Gingerbread.

Notification light flashes w/ no notification but goes away after a real notification pops up
Keyboard blacklight does light up

No battery issues...yet...

Another thing I noticed, found an app called "Rich Location" now installed on my phone and I can't uninstall it. It appeared after the update. Anyone else get this?

That's just bloatware that you can't uninstall, like CityID and many others. Just have to ignore it.

I hate to add more problems without solutions, but I don't have any answers.

I have the same keyboard backlight problem as everyone else.

As for battery, I don't see a big drop off, but when I fully charge the phone at night, immediately shut it off and turn it on in the morning, the battery starts 10 to 20% down.

Also, since last update, phone will sometimes turn itself on in the middle of the night when no one is near it.

Last, have bluetooth through car dashboard. Since update when I ask it to call someone, call is dropped without every dialing. Second time always goes through.

Any help is appreciated before I throw it out of the window!!

To uninstall systems application, you can use titanium backup. Long press on the app and on pop up menu select convert to user app. Then go back and tap this app and select uninstall... it will work but you must be alert and know what you will do by removing system app,
Have a try and do it on your own risk... :)

I have the same Bluetooth problem. Drops the first call, second call goes through. Never happened prior to GB. I've noticed that sometimes when this happens I have to re-establish the Bluetooth connection before I can make a call. I've done a hard reset and re-paired the phone with my car but the issue persists. Is your car a CRV? The hard reset did seem to fix my other PIA GB issues though. One other weird thing is that when I shut my phone off for the night, it occasionally reboots instead of shutting down...

Are you both making sure that your device is in CDMA and not Global mode? My battery life is the same as before the update, provided the phone hasn't switched itself to Global.

I have a question. How do I know if it has switched to Global mode?

I'm not sure if this will work for you, nor am I sure that the settings on Droid Pro are similar to Droid Global. But I'll attempt to assist you anyhow.

I had issues with my keyboard. To my surprise, these steps not only fixed my keyboard, but the blinking notification light and on/off working navigation lights! It may work for you, too! :)

Settings > Language & keyboards > Multi-touch keyboard.

Then:

- Disable 'vibrate on keypress.'
- Disable 'next word prediction.'
- Clear learned words.

I believe that may have fixed the keyboard backlight issue, but has definitely not fixed the blinking notification LED. I will add it to the original post once I'm sure the keyboard backlight still works. I alread had both 'vibrate on keypress' and 'next word prediction' disabled so I think clearing learned words is the only thing that needs to be done there.

Alright. I wasn't sure. Since it worked for me, I thought it would work for others. Ah well. Just a suggestion :-)

I can offer a fix:

I previously reported the lack of the "View Report" menu item in GB when long pressing on a sent text message. This was a nice feaure in Froyo which showed that a text was actually delivered to another Verizon handset. If someone's handset was off, it would say "pending" until they turned it back on. Nice for kids, colleagues on Verizon.

You can get that feature back! Thanks to Southplank in the Droid 2 forums for this tip! Go to TEXT MESSAGING : MESSAGING SETTINGS : DELIVERY REPORTS and simply check the box. Fixed! I am really miffed that the GB update screwed with so many prior settings.

My battery life is now better since checking "CDMA" vs "Global". I found that my phone switched back to Global a second time on its own but has been stable for the last few days. If you develop battery drain, verify this setting again.

Actually, that didn't fix the keyboard backlight issue either. Don't clear your dictionaries, people.

The network mode was "Global!"

I switched it to "CDMA."

Thanks so much!! Explains the rapidly depleted battery.

Same here!

Thanks Astaroth for pointing that out. Even when I changed my settings to "maximum battery saver" I was rapidly depleting. This should help a TON.
