In case you missed the RUMOR in brackets above, we are going to reiterate that this is only rumor and there is nothing currently out there to confirms this. As an update to the story about Five Nexus handsets being available through Google's Playstore , there is new rumor circulating around the exact date. . According to the Android Guys a trusted TalkAndroid source is saying that "we'll be getting five Pure Android/Nexus devices come November 5th." Why November 5th you ask? Well it just so happens it’s Android’s 5th Birthday and what better way to celebrate 5 years than offer 5 pure Android handsets.

Captain Obvious tells us that if this is true, consumers will have their choice of hardware manufacturer, and Sam the Skeptic says what would be the point. With differences in hardware between the manufacturers becoming more of a blurred line, the manufacturer UI's are really what make the variety of handsets stand out from one another. So what exactly would be the point of having 5 devices that are essentially the same? One, it would be a great way for Google to get their OS to the masses through a variety of devices and/or carriers. Two, stock Android devices are very rare or perhaps they are not all handsets and some tablets will get thrown into the mix as well. That's a scenario that could definitely play out as well.

A lot of people would love to have their choice of hardware manufacture for the Nexus platform and just the thought of it is very exciting. As with all rumors we must take it with a wheel barrel full of Himalayan Salt.

Is this rumor nothing more than bunk or could there be something to it? Sound off in the comments.

The main issue for many of this on the site will be how much will VZ mess with the device that they get if any. The CDMA issue has been brought up previously so odds are that if a version arrives it will be coming through Verizon, but there's always the hope that you'll still be able to get the phone directly from Google so that it will be bloat free off the rip. Here's hoping!

Although that is true. If indeed they are nexus devices it wouldn't take a lot of efforet to strip the bloat out of them! I mean... unlock root delete! Lol. I will be first in line to grab a moto nexus device IF this comes true!

It would also be fitting for the launch of Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. Man that's a lot of 5's. Oh and dare I mention "Remember, remember, the 5th of November..."

Well maybe this will be what i need to help make up my mind in my next device. I read some users have had luck in getting unlimited HSPA+ data using an international version of their device and sticking in an ATT sim for only $15/month. So, im intrigued.

I hope the 5 phones come in different sizes, not just jumbo wumbo. Maybe theyll make a 4 inch phone.

Interesting to say the least. I would love to see a nexus moto device..... but I'm not holding my breath. Lets hope...:hail::hail::hail:

I think you hit the nail on the head. We know Google flat out came out and said the difficultly of supporting cdma devices. We know one of the five will be the nexus tablet. So I suspect the other will be Samsung GSM version. I am guessing we will see one cdma nexus (if any) and I betting it will be with sprint since they seem more willing to work with google than vzw. Hopefully I am wrong on this but my instincts are telling me vzw gave us a galaxy nexus to shut us up. Will we see another one this year...well looking at how much vzw has seemed to be cooperating with the current nexus project they just seem like they are fine with doing the minimum of giving us one nexus every 2 years and let google figure out how to give us updates. Again this is me talking and hopefully I am wrong.

It says in the article one will be for Verizon. It says one nexus device for each of the big four carriers

Huh?...why would each carrier need one...they just need two. One for CDMA and one for GSM. Each CDMA carrier would then put in their own CDMA binaries. Sounds to me like they are trying to connect something that isn't there.

Im sure some cosmetic changes between carriers will take place. That's what I took it as anyway.

5 Different Sizes

My guess is that they won't be 5 virtually identical handsets made by different manufacturers. but will come in 5 different size. Remember, the 5 devices reportedly include tablets.

My guess would be a 4" phone, a 4.5" phone, a 5" phone/tablet, 7" tablet, and a 10" tablet.

LG will make the 4" phone, because they're good at "low end" devices
Samsung will make the 4.5" phone, similar design to Galaxy sIII
HTC will make the 5" Phone/tablet (already rumors that HTC is working on a 5" galaxy note competitor, with 1080p resolution, why not this?)
Asus and Motorola will each make one of the tablet sizes

Thoughts on my predictions?
