We have a pretty exciting new rumor to share with you guys regarding the Motorola X Phone. Supposedly, a senior Telstra executive has made some enthusiastic comments on the new device. According to the source of this intel, Hugh Bradlow, Chief Technology Officer for Telstra, (the leading carrier in Australia), recently commented the X Phone is a, "real breakthrough, a game changer that will put pressure on Samsung and Apple". Additionally, he supposedly confirmed our previous reports that the Motorola X will be unveiled during the Google Developer Conference in May and will go on sale in July.

Additionally, the former Marketing Manager for Motorola Mobility in Australia, Barry Smyth who recently moved to the US to lead the marketing push for the new device. Finally, an unknown Motorola source shared the new X Phone will have software features never seen before in a smartphone. Here's a quote,

"Google has been working on this device for a long time. It has software features and capabilities that are not available on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone or Apple iPhone. The software is really powerful and it pulls together Google services like no other manufacturer has done in the past," a reliable source told SmartHouse.

Well, that is certainly vague, yet supremely satisfying. It certainly sounds like Motorola/Google is going all out with this one, which will make for a truly thrilling Summer for mobile tech!

Thanks for the tip, grenefroggie!

the only way they can be more vague is if they said "it will be super duper awesome"

I'll believe it when i see it. every mfg comes out and says they have the best thing since sliced bread and in all honesty NOTHING has been earth shatter in the smartphoen market for over 2+ yrs. Its all redos of the same stuff with beefed up hardware that is overkill and not needed.

What was the greatest thing before sliced bread??

A little bit better is earth shaking in their eyes.

If it's not HD it might as well be a newspaper.

I agree for the most part. Game changing to me was Webtop/the laptop dock, the Samsung projector phone, the Nokia phones with the great cameras and camera software. And the Dell Streak and Samsung Note.

And there are features on Galaxy phones not seen on others. BFD. Give me the best AOSP experience. If its not better than what can be done in CM10 or AOKP...then it fails.

Game changer? Don't tell me show me. Sorry for being skeptical but I fell for the thunderbolt and galaxy nexus (which was a good phone minus radios and vzw support). The X phone could potentially be awesome but I have to admit some thing just do not seem to add up.

If the software is that great with motorola's hardware why sell it cheap? Motorola needs to make money and putting out their potentially best phone in years for pennies is not a good way to do that. SO that makes me think that either it will cost more than the 199 off contract (price for nexus 4) or they cut corners somewhere to justify the costs.

199 off contract? now youre just dreaming lol... plus as good as this phone is they'll just drop another months later claiming it to be so much better than the last... there last 4 major releases have been their best ever and flagship devices... now I'm not saying this phone won't go above and beyond and be a legitimate contender to apple and samsung but who knows what those 2 drop in this years releases

me personally I'm looking for a phablet and the note 2 wins that category easily; in my eyes.. and by phablet I mean all the added features, not just screen size

Ahh figured it out. They are going to have top of the wall hardware and software loaded with google and verizon apps and locked down along with a 5 mp camera. The ads and bloatware will help pay for it while the cheap camera will keep the cost down. Now you have a $199 device.

I know you Motorola fans are fuming about my comments. Calm down it is said in fun. I hope Motorola does get back to prominence. When I had my droid I imagined Motorola being where Samsung is at now. Motorola should have been the king of android but somewhere they lost focus and Samsung took the crown. Motorola have to go where Samsung has went and be willing to innovate and bring top notch software. If you give us an awesome device we will be willing to pay for it. People are tired of spending their hard earned only to get hardware from the year before. To see Samsung put out quad core phones with 2 gigs of ram while motorola is still on dual core 1 gig of ram is just disheartening. Motorola needs to step it up. Give people a phone that has one of the best cameras, battery life, and software available and they will flock to buy or you can keep taking short cuts and watch your fans go somewhere else. Every time Motorola has had the eyes of the fans they dropped the ball. People were waiting for the bionic only to get done dirty by seeing a razr with a better screen released later. People buy the razr only to find out that a maxx with a better battery get released afterwards. We flock waiting for the razr maxx hd only to see delay after delay and have the note 2 have just as good of battery life with a better screen, better software, better camera, and more ram. To me it seems like Samsung tries to put out the best of the year while Motorola has been trying to stay on par. Hopefully the motorola X truly live up to the hype and give people the best and not playing for par.

I think Google/Motorola are well aware of what it's going to take to knock Sammy off the throne and I for one fully expect this phone to be something we have never seen before. Features and hardware it needs to be one of a kind. I think they just may pull off something spectacular in May that will turn the smartphone world upside down. They NEED to...

Remember Jha is gone and Samsung is no where in sight. Samsung figured out the obvious winning formula that was blatantly obvious to most of us; build a high end smartphone with cutting edge hardware, brand it and don't release another handset that can best it months later. Googorola cannot release a smartphone that is competitive, no, they have to release one that raises the bar so high that the manufacturers will be playing catch-up for years. The X phone has to be that good otherwise they will end up an also ran. The buzz in May must be so crazy that it grabs everyone's attention.
