For a while now we have been keeping you updated as Verizon releases more info on potential data plan changes. Obviously, we all know they will eventually be moving to tiered packages, but some new "rumors" seem to suggest that Verizon may start providing more official info as early June 26th, or shortly thereafter. A further bit of "intel" also indicates that they are considering Family Data Plans. This info comes courtesy of some speculation from the folks over at Droid-Life after they received the above VZW database pic. Here's a quote from the article giving a deeper description of the "rumint"
The idea here is that family plans already allow additional lines to pull from a main line’s bucket of minutes, and doing the same with data only makes sense. As you can see from the screenshot above, this new data screen shows the option to “Share Data”, but also shows a “Family Share” tab which is where we are drawing these conclusions from.
It's important to note that the article suggests we should ignore the pricing in this screenshot, because that wasn't the focus of the rumor, and is probably not accurate. It also suggested that the date on the 26th may be meaningless as this could all just be "backend stuff". We will watch and share.

So basically, I would have to purchase a charge, to lock in my 4G unlimited price, then, when the SGS2 comes out, sell the charge and buy that outright?

Does that sound like the route I would have to go, to lock that price in?

I'm not sure what your question has to do with the rumor of family share data sharing?

Here's to keeping this thread on topic.

Only a matter of time before another blog runs with that data to cause a minor panic (generating hits) over pricing.

His question pertains to the rumor, and is a little more pressing. :p

It has to do with trying to lock in my unlimited pricing, which, I though this post was about.

What whatever...back on topic. June 26th eh?

I think I understand your question, but are you already on a family share plan? If a single plan, this is about sharing under a family share data plan. To answer your question, you will want to lock in on an unlimited data pricing if that's what you want and time is running out to upgrade it appears. Not sure how accurate the end of June is though.

I think there's 2 things to take from this posting:

1) you will be able to share data in a family plan

2) VZW is about to pwn your wallet for data usage

VZW wireless will only be a bad choice if you're a tethered that uses a ridiculous amount of data. A LOT of families could save money with shared data and always have a phone available for upgrade if played right. 4 smartphones at 30$ a month is more expensive than 4 at 80 a month for a couple Gb when only one user really consumes a large amount of data.

Definitely agree, some people will benefit from this. I would say the majority of people don't use the bandwidth anyhow, and something like 2GB will be just fine. But for those that do use it, the free ride is indeed almost over.

Luckily I just re-upped my lines before this took place, so I will be enjoying my unlimited data and using however much I want. :D

Exactly. I'm actually looking forward to this. I never come close to using my data allowance and both my sons would like to have Android phones. Having to spend $90 a month to make that happen just isn't attractive. Sharing a 2-3gb plan for $40 or $50 is easier to handle.

great move by verizon...i think combined my family uses less then 2GB and that's 5 lines, and this will weed out the people who use an ungodly amount by tethering

I typically haven't used more than a few gigs a month over the last couple of years. Not so now though.... dang Netflix app. I got addicted to Dexter and watched the first two seasons, exclusively via the Netflix app on my D1 over 3G. I haven't looked at my usage lately, but I bet it's more than 5 gigs. D'oh!

Slingbox, Dropbox and the XM radio app have put me easily over 10GB a month.
