Rumored MR Wireless Charging Feature in Galaxy S5 Shot Down

There have been a slew of rumors cramming inboxes regarding the Galaxy S5 nearly every day for several weeks. Sadly, this latest one is actually a reversal of a previous rumor. There have been some earlier rumors suggesting the Galaxy S5 would come with a new Magnetic Resonance Wireless charging technology built-in. The premise of this technology basically allows a device to charge wirelessly without having to be placed directly on a charging pad. It can be in close proximity of the wireless charger and still receive the charging benefit. It can even be in use while charging.

Supposedly, Samsung is indeed working on bringing this technology to smartphones and it may come sometime in 2014. Unfortunately, the Galaxy S5 will not be one of them. There has been new confirmation of a denial that the tech will make it to Sammy's flagship in time for launch. Here's a quote with more of the details,

Back in October, rumors emerged about the possibility of Samsung implementing magnetic resonance wireless charging, a technology that allows wireless charging of a device without direct contact with the charging pad, on its smartphones. The rumors suggested that the technology would find its way into phones from mid-2014, but some were still hopeful that it would be ready in time to find a place on the Galaxy S5.

However, that’s not likely to happen, according to a report from the Korean media. Industry officials have said that Samsung might skip on putting magnetic resonance wireless charging on the Galaxy S5; apparently, the technology does exist and it won’t be difficult to implement it on the S5, but Samsung doesn’t believe the technology is marketable yet and isn’t sure of whether consumers will be willing to cough up extra cash for the feature.

Maybe we will see it at some point, but perhaps Samsung is simply waiting for the general public to desire this feature more than they currently do.
